Fairness, Dignity and Respect joint briefings
Anyone had these new Fairness, Dignity and Respect joint briefings? The rep and manager together are supposed to read out these different scenarios. Cant believe that union negotiators have signed it off, it has a big bit about how workers shouldn't make a fuss about the 30 minute flexibility rule without explaining how this is meant to be exceptional, just that you do it whenever traffic is unexpectedly high. Worse it has nothing about working to your time, when that's the biggest sore point between workers and managers and has caused all sorts of trouble, suspensions, strikes, walkouts over the last year. Talk about officials pulling the rug out from under us.

Re: Fairness, Dignity and Respect joint briefings
Can someone help me with this. Dont get it. Apparently from next week i am to assisst organising people to flex over their time, not get paid for it AND only get out of it IF they have a good reason, so basically pry into their private lives. Is this right?

Are you a rep?
If you are, you are right to be concerned and this is the reason that I, as a rep, have refused to do this briefing......
From what I saw on the notes I was given to read just prior to refusing, the stuff on flexibility looked very dodgy!

Re: Fairness, Dignity and Respect joint briefings
Taken from the WTLL Facilitators Guide;
"For Facilitator; Should you need it, a point of Clarification on 30 mins Flexibility.
Where necessary, for example when traffic volumes are unexpectedly high or resourcing issues arise, individuals may be asked and may themselves request to vary their duty times by up to 30 minutes on a swings and roundabouts basis. Individual circumstances will be taken into account and total weekly contractual hours will not change.
This means that individuals may flex their duty times by up to 30 minutes on any given day and this will be balanced either way over the next 5 working days. However this period can be extended by local agreement. A local record will be kept. Any requirement to change times of attendance or flex will take into account individual's personal obligations and responsibilities."

I'll be telling members the same as I told them before new crap agreement, if you don't want to work extra, just say no, I don't see why any reason needs to be given. I'm not paid extra to do management work, they can do that themselves.
I'll resign if pushed from branch or headquarters.

Re: Fairness, Dignity and Respect joint briefings
so you can refuse to not do these joint statement things then.
Not very new start then is it,Uncle Dave and the top table said that the management would all change and be reasonable,maybe he should have said that some reps should just feck off as they are obviously militants.

Re: Fairness, Dignity and Respect joint briefings
I'm sorry but this is the bit that starts to raise alarm bells. Staff are entitled to a private live outside of RM, one which the business does not encroach into or have any right to information about (safe for the obvious). A single man with no ties has the same right to work his contracted hours as one with 8 children (all of whom have to be picked up from different schools). To even suggest that staff members need to start providing reasons and provide some form of evidence as to why they do not wish to work over is a form of intimidation ... black books may not really exist in desks drawers but they certainly do in the minds of some Line Mangers & DOMs.macphee1 wrote:Where necessary, for example when traffic volumes are unexpectedly high or resourcing issues arise, individuals may be asked and may themselves request to vary their duty times by up to 30 minutes on a swings and roundabouts basis. ]Individual circumstances will be taken into account and total weekly contractual hours will not change.
