Mail Collect is a free service that lets you collect mail from your local Delivery Office at a time that suits your needs. We hold your mail securely at our Delivery Office and it can only be collected by authorised people with ID.

Very unique exceptions, of course! and i am not in management... Like I said, it is just my opinion. Personally, I would not want to be handling my neighbours mail or delivering in my neighbourhood.

I presume this person is on a singleton round or very senior in his office. The fact that he is asking to go and have a break at his own house just speaks volume - unprofessional, imo.

not that unique, loads of them up and down the country, we have 6 in our delivery sector ourselves, there was even someone on here a few months back that was getting their mail for delivery dropped to them at their house not even a spdo,

as for where he takes meal relief, the law is pretty clear, your employer can not specify where you take your meal break, they can tell you when but where you go in that break is entirely your own business

But the mail needs to be secure.
If he is using a HCT it is a non-starter.
And the employer can stipulate when he takes the break, so if it is scheduled before departure he can't have his meal relief at his house while out on delivery.

A drop box somewhere along the route or in some else's premises but not the postman's. It is asking for trouble.

We also had a post here many many months ago about someone taking a packet from bags that were dropped under the stairs of a large block of flats.

Mail security and integrity is paramount.

in brief your MR is time for you to dispose of as you see fit.
however as you can see from other posts you could possibly be opening a can of worms when it comes to the mail and its security

There is also the question of privacy. If you use your car for official reasons IIRC part of the agreement says Royal Mail are allowed access to search it when requested. As a Meal Relief is technically part of your official duty would that also mean they should be allowed to search your property at a moments notice.
