what is world class mail?

Hey. We had a video presentation a week ago about WCM. It showed backless IPS fittings, porters, a union rep apparently in rms pocket, etc. Is this actually part of wcm or not? Our area rep says its not and has agreed it. The managers say it is. And that its happening in a few weeks in my office. So wtf IS wcm?

Given that WCM is about continuous improvement and ever greater efficiency, everything that occurs in RM could be traced back to, or connected with WCM.

Indoor Work Methods is not considered by the union to be part of the World Class Mail project.

You can't go to disagreement simply because WCM activity is taking place. There is a national agreement on WCM so they would need to be breaking the terms of this for you to be able to go yo disagreement.

Phil, I asked what WCM was because the managers presented the indoor revision as being WCM.

"A review of the operational work plan in accordance with the principles agreed in Business Transformation 2010 to be completed by June 2014. "

"By the end of June 2014 we will conclude a review of all existing employee engagement initiatives and put in place new and more progressive initiatives that support our shared objectives, a mutual interest culture and leads to well-motivated and highly engaged employees. This review of existing engagement practices will also cover World Class Mail".
However it has been brought to the attention of the department that the business are attempting to introduce employee engagement initiatives in some Delivery Offices which have not even been discussed with the CWU never mind agreed.
With the ballot result on the above mentioned agreement having only just been declared discussions on the review of employee engagement initiatives has not commenced. On that basis any new initiatives being presented to our members or representatives in the localities will by default be unagreed.

I still dont know what WCM is. But as the indoor revision is understood by local management as being a WCM initiative my questions are obviously relevant.

WCM is basically a set of tools/techniques used for improvement (often not very well). IWM was derived using WCM methods but when it was decided to roll it out nationally it became a seperate project. Neither WCM or IWM are new and there are exisiting agreements covering both.

The joint agreements covering WCM are no longer valid and this is recognised by both parties.
The CWU has pulled out of WCM "now and in the future".
If it's coming back it will be under a different name.

IWM are all about saving seconds. We had it implemented 6 months ago.

IPS - its a nightmare. You go straight onto sorting as soon as you enter the building. Could be stood up for 1hr 50 mins, chicken dance comes in after an hour.

Porter - the worst of all jobs, in our DO each porter is expected to supply 24 walks, 8 walks each time on a trolley. Non stop and you work up onr hell of a sweat. Not many posties willing to do this. BTW watch out for flying mail as you get the mail from the backless IPS frames.

Double prep - prob the best option BUT try and double prep your walk and your P&L partner's. If you double prepping two part timers walks you are expected to throw everything in up to redirections, even if the IPS and porters have finished.

Just another nail in the coffin in this once fine job.

its still being rammed down our throat as wcm. at wtll,, notice boards,, courier,,if the union have pulled out i dont think royal mail are listening.
