Wind; Is there a "CUT OFF" point, re. Its speed?

Well, the Weatherman was right, and the Storms are back from Wednesday.
Is there a point where its deemed to bbe "Unsafe" to deliver, regarding Wind Speed/Rain/Standing water?

Ive heard the "Use yer common sense and Risk Assess" conversation.

Im sure many Posties - no offence - have never done a Risk Assessment course. Luckily I did a 4 day "Health and Safety Executive, Appointed Persons" course years ago, so have a bit of experience.

So, if you bring mail back, what do you have to prove to Managers, to show that it was Unsafe?

WE are the best placed to assess the danger whether experienced in risk assessment or not - if you feel that you are in danger or the physical effort of fighting the elements is too demanding then advise the office that you are returning with mail and get back as safely as possible. We finished just before hell broke loose on Wednesday and the damage caused where we had been earlier was bad with fences and trees broken and felled and more worryingly, a lot of broken slates in gardens, and waste bins blown over. Doesn't take much encouragement to say no thankyou to working in that and no manager on earth could complain about it. Your personal safety is paramount and that is what we are told in my office with regards to any hazards we come across.

As above, if you feel your safety is at risk then stop delivering and take it back. RM are always banging on about H&S being top priority, but in reality they send you out in virtually anything because their actual priority is getting the mail out.

What they do is put the ball in your court, so don't be afraid to make a decision if you need to.

If you deem it unsafe then bring it back. They cant preach health and safety on one hand and expect you to do unsafe deliveries on the other.

Haven't heard anything in Waste Your Time Briefings. Received an all encompassing message to the PDA with "Be Aware....etc", I tend to treat these just as some sort of Opt Out for the Management in case something goes wrong.

It will be interesting to try the H & S angle, this weather is really testing my mental determination. Lost count of the amount of times I've thought, "Stuff this I've had enough"...only to plow on a bit longer to finish. I've gone that extra mile (literally) and I didn't even get a Green Beret!
