Joint Delivery Tools Workshop & Optimisation Delivery Sim

Post by TrueBlueTerrier »

Letter to Branches

To: Branches with POSTAL Members

Dear Colleague,

National Joint Statement - Joint Delivery Tools Workshop & Optimisation Delivery Simulator

Branches will be aware that as part of the Integrated Delivery Programme and in particular the People, Involvement and Training Strand contained within the new national agreement “Agenda For Growth, Stability and long Term Success” there is a commitment to providing joint training for Managers and CWU Representatives. The words of the national agreement state the following:

“We are fully committed to jointly developing and deploying training for managers and CWU representatives designed to enhance the learning, confidence and understanding of managers and CWU reps on how to carry out their respective roles competently and in line with national agreements. This will include the Delivery Revisions Workshop and an updated Delivery Simulator.”

Both of these packages have now been updated to reflect the national agreement and the principles contained within and have subsequently been renamed the Delivery Tools Workshop & Optimisation Delivery Simulator. Both are now ready for national deployment. In addition to this joint training discussions are continuing on other aspects of training which will be reported in due course.

The national Joint Statement covering the Joint Delivery Tools Workshop and Optimisation Delivery Simulator is attached to this LTB and CWU Delivery Representatives should liaise with Royal Mail managers to ensure that the release is being provided and arrangements put in place for CWU Representatives to attend both training packages with their Delivery Office Managers.

The content of these training packages is too voluminous to circulate but we are confident that the agreed content will be adhered to during the training. The department would also like to place on record its thanks to Bob McGuire CWU Divisional Representative for his assistance in bringing the review of this aspect of the training to a satisfactory conclusion.

Any enquiries to Bob Gibson’s Office, quoting reference 230

Yours sincerely

Royal Mail and CWU National Joint Statement
Joint Delivery Tools Workshop & Optimisation Delivery Simulator

Royal Mail faces an increasingly competitive landscape both in the letters and parcels market. The future success of Royal Mail is dependent upon our ability to offer customers products that meet current and future needs, excellent customer and quality of service, and value for money. Royal Mail and CWU are jointly committed to securing this objective by working together to understand and achieve industry leading performance in all aspects of delivery and collection. Competition is not standing still and the needs of our customers continue to evolve. We will work together to ensure there is on-going effort to improve every aspect of our business including: safety, customer, quality, efficiency and employee engagement to ensure we remain competitive and together secure long term future success with the will and support of the workforce. This will be done upholding the standards of fairness, dignity and respect in the workplace where everyone can expect to work in a safe environment, based upon honesty and trust where they are all well trained and supported, feel valued and motivated and are better equipped to carry out their role.

This Joint statement sets out our commitment to jointly developing and deploying training designed to enhance the learning, confidence and understanding of Delivery Managers and CWU reps on how to carry out their respective roles competently and in line with national agreements.

The CWU and Royal Mail have two joint delivery training packages, known as the Delivery Tools Workshop and the Optimisation Delivery Simulator which directly support the “Resourcing to Workload Efficiently and Fairly” and “People, Involvement & Training” strands of the Integrated Delivery Programme as detailed in the new agreement. Both training packages are designed to be interactive and are fully supported by both Royal Mail and the CWU.

The Delivery Tools Workshop is focused on DOMs and Unit Reps and is aimed at all offices. It is activity based and incorporates all aspects of processes and tools used within delivery offices. The facilitators of this workshop are both Royal Mail Managers and CWU representatives who have been trained to deliver the product.

The Delivery Simulator is designed for DOMs, Delivery Line Managers and Unit Reps to understand the factors critical to the success of their BT2010 revision and how to more effectively utilise their resource against changing customer needs – Resourcing to Workload/Demand.

Royal Mail and CWU agree that the Delivery Tools workshop and Delivery Simulator are equally important, are complementary to each other and reinforce the learning in key areas. The process for organising the attendance of both managers and CWU Reps on to both courses will be the same, and will also ensure that any pre-work, preparation of materials and release of delegate’s is arranged in advance of the workshops taking place.

Nationally, we are now committed to begin a full roll out of these valuable joint training packages to all Delivery Offices. Royal Mail Unit Managers and CWU Unit representatives will work together to fully and accurately deploy the tools and processes as detailed in the joint training packages, to ensure the successful implementation of the learning and running of delivery offices after returning to their respective units.

Delivery Directors, CWU Divisional Reps, Heads of Delivery Programme, DSM's and Area CWU Reps are to fully support both training programmes, and subsequent implementation into the field. Royal Mail will ensure the appropriate release is made available for all participants to attend the courses together.

Any queries should be raised with Royal Mail, Central Delivery Function; or CWU HQ Outdoor Dept

CWU representatives who have been trained to deliver the product.
No lessons learned from the last 3 years then?, I've been on both the tools workshop and the delivery simulator and all both succeed in doing is muddling the issues even more.

They say that the only thing more dangerous than ignorance is superficial knowledge and that's all a two day workshop will give you, enough confidence to go it alone and screw things up completely. What we really need is at least one or two people in each branch professionally trained to walk a rep through the revision process, and we need to make sure that these people have involvement in every revision...although to say it's a bit late in the day is an understatement.
Bob McGuire does love his delivery simulator though. :cuppa

Was I the only one who read their the thread title as "Optimisation Delivery SIM" ?
I half expected to read RM were giving you a SIM card, so DOMs could phone you every 5 minutes, to cajole you along, and thus 'optimise' the time it takes you to complete a delivery...
