London Wages

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me. I am currently working as a postman in the West Midlands and I am trying to get a transfer to a branch in London. At the moment I am on a 34 hour per week contract, yet the only jobs currently available in the city are 25 hours per week. I cant afford to take such a big hit to my income, but did hear that London posties may be entitled to London weighting. If the average wage for working in London is higher than my current hourly rate, I may afford to be able to cut my hours down and go ahead with the transfer. I know pay is a usually a private matter, but if anyone would be willing to discuss this matter with me ,it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

I've read that the Royal Mail (like many other companies) pay a london weighting allowance.

They do.
I believe it's about £3,000 P.A.
Though the rate is different for inner/outer London.

Yeah. I live in west London. If you're young and want to live a stripped-down life (bedsit or have roomies in a larger flat), it's doable.

Weekly Oyster pass for zone 1 - 3 is around £36. Rent - at the lowest end - is between £80 to £100 a week. You can shave a little off that (move in closer to central London, into the tiniest bedsit possible, and only take buses) but that's your baseline before food.

Maisymoo, I enjoy your posts, but maybe you should consider removing that tagline / signature at the bottom of your posts. We had a veiled threat in WTLL recently, that postings on social media and on a forum, that could be deemed as bringing RM's name into disrepute, could result in action under the conduct code
