Claiming expenses traveling different office?

Post by datasaint »

I'm working at a different office currently so haven't discussed payment with regular manager yet. Do I only get 45p/mile travel expenses from my office to the next, or do I claim hours for travelling also? Using my own car btw.

what type of insurance do you have for your car to cover you for doing this?

also whether you can claim traveling time is something you need to discuss with your dom, as what you could/should be doing is attending at your office for your normal start time, then travel to the other office and return to your home office for your finish time, thus no extra travel time should be paid, unless your dom is willing to pay extra OT

That's the thing it's taking an extra 60mins travelling in total each day. No don't have business insurance, as I'm travelling to place of work thought it'd be covered?

I'm covering a full time duty so I can't really show up late either as it would throw it out of sync for the other guy on it. My standard hours are 23.5 across 3 days, so a lot of this is on OT.

again you will need to get your DOM to authorise any overtime

thats not really your problem, you should be starting and finishing at your office at your correct start and finish times including travelling and if that means you only have a couple of hours in the other office so be it, its the two doms problem to deal with

if your insurance is comprehensive or third party fire/theft it will more than likely only cover commuting to your normal place of work and not other offices, to travel between sites you need business insurance

Most insurance policies these days are fully comp, the price difference between that and TPFAT is negligiable, if you are with a well known company you will be covered for Social, Domestic and Pleasure, which means traveling to a place of work, nowhere do you have to nominate that place of work.

If you are worried about this, you can turn up at your parent office, and request to be taken to your loan office by Royal Mail, traveling is normally covered in your duty time, and it is down to the loan office DOM to decide if he will pay you overtime or not.

If you're being loaned out to another office then you go to your office and let RM get you to the other office, if you've been transferred then the whole thing is up to you.

My policy with direct line is 'Class 1 (S.D.P. + Insured In Person For Business)'.
Class 1 - Social, Domestic & Pleasure purposes and use by the insured in person in connection with his/her business or profession, excluding commercial traveling or the carriage of goods or samples in connection with any trade or business.
I'm only doing this on a loan basis and I'm happy to get extra hours, so I don't want to rock the boat too much, just to get paid whats owed.

No it doesnt, you need to be looking for Social Domestic Pleasure and Commuting to cover you driving to your work

your correct they dont ask that unless you have a claim, then they do, the policy usually states something along the lines of commuting to permanent place of work, so if traveling to another office you would not be covered
