Carlisle, Dumfries and Galloway revealed as the most romantic places in the UK

With just a week to go until Valentine’s Day, we’ve been looking for the most loved-up towns and cities in the UK.

After analysing mail volumes nationwide, it seems cupid’s arrow has found its mark in Carlisle and Dumfries and Galloway, as those living in the CA and DG postcodes sent the most Valentine’s cards last year.

Love-struck residents in these areas, which are served by the Carlisle Mail Centre, sent the largest percentage increase (32%) in First Class mail on February 13th 2013 – the day before Valentine’s Day - compared to the same day the week before (February 6th).

Other places sharing the love were Cardiff, with residents in the CF postcode sending a 30% increase in mail, followed by people in London, Norwich and Kent.

Love is in the air

Vivienne Dalton, manager of Carlisle Mail Centre, says: ‘I’m delighted to declare people of Cumbria alongside Dumfries and Galloway as the most romantic in the UK. It’s clear love is in the air in the borders of England and Scotland, as people want to share their love by sending Valentine’s Day cards.

‘Valentine’s Day is a busy time for us so we would remind people to send their cards in good time so we can deliver your message to your loved one in time for February 14th.’
