I've never really considered posting before but having read loads of 'toilet' threads previously, here's an interesting take that I saw on a football forum.

Seems like policemen might even have things worse than posties ... !!

"Not that I particularly revel in anyone else's misfortune but I've just read a post on the Unmentionable's board which cruelly tickled my warped sense of humour but also left me aghast. Some bloke has posted about how disgusted he was with a response given by a member of the public to his nephew, who is a copper.

Apparently his nephew was on duty at an Opening of Parliament event, or similar, in Central London and after absolutely ages standing on duty without being relieved, he got to the stage where was 'beyond desperate' for the toilet for a wee. Eventually, he simply had no alternative other than to ask to be stood down, seemingly to the annoyance of senior officers, and he literally hobbled off in search of a loo.

However, being unfamiliar with the area he didn't know where to go but found a small shop nearby, went in and asked/virtually pleaded to use the toilet - but astonishingly, the shopkeeper refused, saying he was fed up with people asking.

Guess what? Incredibly, with nowhere else obvious to go and at absolute breaking point and unable to wait more than a few seconds longer, the young officer went back outside and just uncontrollably "did it in his trousers" out in the street before he could find anywhere else. As can be imagined, the whole area was very busy and his accident happened in front of stunned members of the public.

His uncle has posted a furious tirade asking how anyone could be so heartless as the shopkeeper. His nephew was apparently, and unsurprisingly, left very humiliated by what happened.

I know it's not really funny and must have been awful for him but on the other hand ...

On the board where it was posted there's loads of "he should have just p**sed in his helmet" type of comments, which you'd expect but joking aside, in all seriousness, what on earth could he have done in such a predicament? What a situation to be in!"

Yes, not a laughing matter at all. Full-bladder was a torture used by the Romans, where the unfortunate victims had their penises tied tight and were forced to drink wine. Toilet facilities should be provided within your workplace, or stops if working outside. I think he should use his union (if not too embarrassed) and take action over this. Poor sod.

The ureters are the tubes that feed from each kidney to the bladder, they do not have valves to prevent reverse flow. If your bladder gets too full, the fluid can back up into the kidneys, leading to Kidney dilation (hydronephrosis) and Kidney infection (pyelonephritis).

Both are serious medical conditions that can lead to permanent kidney damage and possible dialysis or even the need for a transplant.

Not really forward thinking by the shopkeeper either.

Not that I'd ever accuse the Police of failing in their duties, but if ever an emergency call comes in from that shop, how would the shopkeeper feel if there 'were no available units to attend'?

I can understand the feelings towards the 'uniform' and the police force in general but surely it's not difficult to be sympathetic to the predicament this poor young officer found himself in?

Personally, I can imagine nothing more embarrassing than for something like that to happen in public.

I'm a postman on delivery and a few rounds in our office have absolutely nowhere to go to pee and with our rounds now lasting up to 5 hours on delivery what do you do.
The only option is hiding on your round and urinating in a drinks bottle and hope you are not seen and reported to your management.
Its a catch 22 situation as you have to drink fluids on delivery (especially in the summer) but can't pee anywhere.
