Union Reps paid or not paid?

I had a conversation with colleagues today regarding union reps whether they are paid or not paid for being reps. Do they get paid or not, and how much? And if they get paid, who pays them RM or CWU?

No they do not get paid any extra for taking on the role.

no, im a rep and get paid nothing for doing the job. Its loads of stress & unpaid work & phone calls at home for nout. So give your reps support, dont criticize everything they do or do the job yourself.

you read somewhere? that sounds as solid as oak! , delivery office reps get paid nothing extra! ive done it for years & have never been paid a penny!

if they move up the CWU tree they can get full time release from their duties, thats one reason for doing the job

Because we loves our colleagues, even the ones having a sneaky dig at us taking kickbacks from the employer.
Occasionally the Dom buys me a coffee but he probably claims that back as a business expense.
I haven't had a biscuit since the Way Forward came in.

You're not correct.

And some people are willing to help others, out of the goodness of their heart.
Some people care about their colleagues.
And quite frankly, if Reps were paid, and that was the only reason people would take on the role, then I think most would be useless at it.
As they would be in it for the wrong reason.

I suspect that you would fall into that category.
If you don't believe the replies you have, apply for the role and ask the Branch secretary how much you get. Bet they laugh at you.

That's strange, our office rep gets extra and he's not just saying it - I know him well. Our old rep also got paid. By who and what exactly the payment is for I don't know but it's a fair amount extra.

Anyone can make a claim like this.
Maybe he was fibbing. Wouldn't be the first.

A very few reps got an Honorarium which varied but IIRC one I heard about was £100 paid once a year. However as there is a question over taxation on this it may have been stopped and/or changed now.

Its certainly not available to, or given to every rep.
