Dear Colleague
EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT – THE BIG PICTURE/FRESH START/ALL ABOUT YOU
It has been brought to the attention of the department that the business, in a number of Royal Mail Group Geographies, are attempting to embark upon seemingly new employee engagement activities in some Mail Centres and quite possibly other units/functions that fall within the department’s current remit.
Colleagues will be aware that the Agenda for Growth, Stability and Long Term Success Agreement, currently out to ballot contains the following commitment in Section Two – Delivering Cultural Change.
Employee Engagement
“By the end of June 2014 we will conclude a review of all existing employee engagement initiatives and put in place new and more progressive initiatives that support our shared objectives, a mutual interest culture and leads to well-motivated and highly engaged employees. This review of existing engagement practices will also cover World Class Mail”.
As you are aware the CWU has gone to great lengths to explain the recommended agreement to representatives at all levels, unit, area and division, however I am not convinced that management have delivered the same standard of message. A new culture will take time to build but achieving consensus and fully involving the CWU in the development of all new initiatives has not only been fully committed to but will also be crucial going forward.
Against that backdrop it is particularly disappointing that some managers have failed to either embrace the new approach or have chosen to ignore it by pushing new un-agreed employee involvement initiatives, especially as the subject matter has been so clearly referred to in the proposed agreement.
So to be clear the above mentioned employee involvement initiatives have not been agreed nationally and any attempt to introduce them should be challenged in the first instance by the logic expressed in this LTB or via the IR Framework and status quo procedures if management fail to respond to your common sense request to respect the new relationship approach.
We would be very grateful if you could keep the department advised accordingly.
Any enquiries in relation to this LTB should be addressed to Terry Pullinger, Assistant Secretary, email: dwyatt@cwu.org or lwright@cwu.org quoting reference number: 711.06.
Yours sincerely
Terry Pullinger

Well the agreement isn't even live yet and already there are rumblings so it's apparent that the managers haven't quite grasped it yet or they are already filling in the blanks themselves pretty much like last time.fishtank wrote:Lol...just lol.

Re: EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT – THE BIG PICTURE/FRESH START/ALL AB
It may well be but the blanks have yet to be agreed with full CWU participation and a can do culture with the aid of WCM champions who haven't all received their crayons yet. Personally I think finger painting may be cheaper in fact I might suggest that to our WCM Graffiti champion.cloherty1976 wrote:Be live tomorrowdvbuk55 wrote:Well the agreement isn't even live yet and already there are rumblings so it's apparent that the managers haven't quite grasped it yet or they are already filling in the blanks themselves pretty much like last time.fishtank wrote:Lol...just lol.

Re: EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT – THE BIG PICTURE/FRESH START/ALL AB
It's just a slight teething problem.
Everything will be smoothed over by tomorrow.
There will be a Joint Statement released.
It will be called Royal Mail and the CWU introduce EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT – THE BIG PICTURE/FRESH START/ALL ABOUT YOU
It will be different but at the same time no different.

I hope there's a trumpet voluntary to open the proceedings, a stage with flags and maybe Janet Jackson could preside with a little bit of the Superbowl trick - now barring cash that's another thing to deflect interest from the core speech.fishtank wrote:It's just a slight teething problem.

Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

Re: EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT – THE BIG PICTURE/FRESH START/ALL AB
Did it really say "The Big Picture"? I thought that terminology went out in the 80s and I couldn't see it then. I must admit I have seen a big picture in an art gallery in Italy, the subject escapes me now but whatever it was I didn't understand it. Looking at the leadership of the union and the last time they did a delivery I CAN understand why the terminology is rooted in the 80s

Re: EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT – THE BIG PICTURE/FRESH START/ALL AB
So it's the same old routine, managers being allowed to apply THEIR interpretation of another loose ended agreement !
What was needed was a solid, clear and easily understood agreement. Each area will end up fragmented at the whim of the many rogue managers within RM, B&H will still be rife and go un-addressed as is the norm at present. The weaker units will be left to stand or fall, and management will carry on doing what they do ! Bully and intimidate DO staff, with their only focus on budget cuts, regardless of quality of service and making the life of delivery staff as miserable as possible. Another POOR proposal in my opinion, a reasonable pay rise BUT the downside will be more relentless grief for delivery !!!

The lunatics are still in charge of the asylum!
The CWU hierarchy are putting way to much faith in the IR framework, we all know they will always push to the extreme in any attempt to drive their interpretations.
What happens when their tactics are allowed to go unchallenged ? Too many loopholes for them to exploit in my opinion.
