A question about 3 month rolling contracts, post-revision

Hi,

I wonder if anybody can help with this...

I have been a postman with Royal Mail less than a year, but before that I worked in delivery as an Angard casual.

I started as a casual just after our office had a revision - I guess they needed casuals because there was so much sickness and the office was in chaos immediately post-revision.

Anyway, I transferred from Angard to a Royal Mail 3 month part time rolling contract about six months after the revision. Our revision has been completed as far as I know - they have reviewed the rounds, set up a couple of new part time duties, and paid the revision bonus to all staff.

The thing is, I am still on a 3 month rolling contract (renewed now for the third time) where the contract states something like 'it is envisioned your services won't be needed after this time' (can't remember the exact wording).

My question then is, how can they keep people on rolling contracts when the revision has been completed and they don't have any long term sick?

I am hopeful that my contract will just keep rolling on until it gets made permanent eventually - but it is pretty insecure not knowing what will happen in 3 months.

Is there not some kind of RM/CWU agreement that limits the use of these temporary contracts? Should I get on to my rep about this? Or am I missing something?

This 'should' of been sorted during the revision process,you 'should' be aware of what the situation is,your rep 'should' know and 'should' of let you and others in the office aware of stuff.

You need to have a word with the rep or some of the guys there.

There is a lot of 'shoulds' in this game.
