Nursery chats with kids

My child is at nursery and every so often they have someone like a fireman, nurse, policeman ect go in and chat about their job, bearing in mind it's 4yr and under they are speaking to so they can make themself's sound like super heros helping people, so the other day I collect my kids straight from work, they now know Im a postman, and ask me if I fancied giving a visit to the kids as it's the same people who do it all the time and something different would be good.


What sort of things could a postman talk about the job that would interest kids.

No, but I would never be left alone with kids, the nursery teacher would be there at all times, we are talking about a 10-15 mins talking about stamps, letters ect, not 100% but I don't think i would need to be for this.

No you won't need to be for the situation you have described,

15-20 mins I reckon they could knock up an edition of the courier in that time....

Haha Same here,No way could I give a talk to the kids about Royal Mail, I couldn't see them using Royal Mail for anything If I had spoken to them.

I was asked but changed duties before I had chance to do it. I was going to take in a PDA and some sample barcodes then let the kids scan and write their names. Taking some kill off stickers would be good as well, something else for the kids to do themselves.

I did one in the north east a few years ago. The kids were great,asking me if i delivered to anyone famous etc. I did another one in London and when i asked if anyone had any questions an 8 year old said that his dad said we should be sold off,i was speechless . Its a good thing to do though and helps us to keep in touch with communities something that rivals dont do. You can always get some educational stuff for the classroom and if you're
lucky get them to lay in a few door to doors while you are there. I always start off by asking them what time they think i get up and just take it from there.

I would definitely take along a black and white cat cuddly toy. The kids would love it. :)

Couldnt you just bring them to work time learning,they'd fit in just fine as where spoken to like children of a similar age and if where good we get to watch a little video

Ive done it. Immensely enjoyable. I took in some bags, lots of uniform (clean lol). Some of the old stampers. Let them play. Amaze them with your local knowledge lol. Tell them u used to work for the queen etc etc. Its fun.
