Advice Help and information please.

Hi, our smallish office is due for 2010 delivery methods very soon. In our office we have no rep and the area rep is off on long term sick leave. Could you wonderful people please pass on any advice and info which would help our office and me out. The view of our office manager is, "he has completely got this under control and if we stick with him on this minor change, everybody will benefit from his expertise?"

I don't want too come across as a silly little girl, but some of us believe including myself that our office manager may be telling tales.

Any information which would benefit us postie's and not the office manager would be truly grateful. ty

There are many other documents but these will get you started but you will need support from your branch.
Someone will be covering for your area rep,find out who it is and get them involved.

Hi, our office manager says that the revision will be set around a "model week?"
He produced a amazing chart full of stats and figures, which he had drawn on a piece of paper. The question I would like a answer to is, how accurate is this information?

He also claims that he knows the exact amount of items due in the office on any given day?

He may possibly do, but what he does not have is how much each walk gets. There can be a big difference in work on each walk on a daily basis.

The machines give a % for each walk. This gives a fairly accurate count if you divide the total traffic by the % to walk.
We used to do a % to walk from the IPS as well in case it was significantly different.
On several occasions I counted the number of items expected to my duty and was never more than about 40 out.

Surely Royal Mail don't count every single of item of mail everyday do they?

The sequenced machines do count every single letter that passes through them.
The rest is estimated using Average Container Fills (ACFs)
Ask him what he is using. On average they aren't miles out.
(Though you always get one who refuses to believe the figures because once he had a tray of letters with 406 items)

There's a thing called Auto-MIS which now gives an exact count of sequenced mail to each delivery.
Manual mail is obviously still guesswork though.

So what figures would Royal Mail have for trays of manual letters and flats? And also is there a average amount for yorks of packets? It seems to a few of us a work that the office manager thinks we came down on the last shower.

This is where the problem is. We have walks with new and newish estates with young families and the amount of packets far exceed the walks where there are elderly peoples flats, elderly mobile home sites. Granted some of these tend to be more heavier on the flats side because for some reason they get more catalogues. But the truth is sequenced mail out in the subs would seldom exceed 50% of the total mail, so to assume that two different walks are fairly allocated the same percentage of unsequenced mail, flats and parcels, and to assume that two identical walks in terms of drop off points can be completed in the same time on a daily basis is pure nonsense.

Some of the older generation of postie's at our office claim they use to weigh every single york which came into our office? How comes this is not done now.

Weighing a mixed lot of mail would be a total waste of time if you wanted to ascertain the number of items. The ACFs are established by the traffic measurement duties at your local Mail Centre

Hi, don't want to come across as a gossip girly, today our office manager has stated that all SA's will disappear under the new delivery methods? Is the true or just another case of our office manager telling tales. I'm really struggling to cope with all false and misleading information we are receiving. ty for all your help so far.
