New starter cutting off

Have been a reserve for about a month now and have been covering at a few different offices. Recently one manager asked me to use my own car which I'm not happy with. A few posties warned me if you are caught it's your neck on the line. After reading about the forums Ive decided next time they try and put me on a driving duty in my own car I'm gonna refuse.

My question is in relation to cutting off. There have been a few times when it has got to finishing time and I have headed back to the office with my undelivered mail, handed in my DNA's, and have finished 15 mins late (and that is without meal relief). Usually I just put the undelivered mail back on the desk of the walk I've done, but sometimes managers aren't around and I don't have their numbers to even let them know.

Is there a certain procedure to follow when cutting off as I feel like I am gonna take some stick when taking mail back that I haven't had time to do by just leaving it there without letting anyone know. I would love the overtime but I just feel like trying to get the overtime without it being agreed beforehand would be more effort than it is worth. All other new starts are working upto 2 hours over without pay and also use their cars, they don't seem as bothered as I am...

So much wrong there that it's difficult to know where to start!

If you don't think you will finish in time and don't want the overtime you really need to let your manager know or you risk willful delay.
Don't use your car you aren't insured.
If you want the overtime arrange it before you go out.

The thing is I don't know whether something is going to take me over my time by looking at the frame as I am new to this. One day, he took one loop off me as I had loads of d2d's before I went out, and I still had to bring back about half a loops worth of mail (2/3 bundles). Completing my round would have taken me about 45 mins/1 hour over my time, which I doubt I would have been paid for, so I brought it back.

The DOM just says "that walk is easy" when in reality I am working my ar*e off non stop until my finish time and still have mail left!

I don't wanna be the one in the wrong by bring stuff back, but then again I don't wanna be played as a mug by working over and then not getting paid

After I quoted it chapter and verse
An understanding was reached
I.e Ill do it when I want the overtime
If not I'll give you fair warning

P.s cutting off doesn't make me bad at my job
Or my performance needing looked at
Or an attitude developed
