Is it me or should cwu reps consult members on issues which will affect them locally before signing an agreement with management?
What summounts to stripping full time staff of seniority in favour of local effciency which has ended up benefiting part time members and leaving full-time members with upto 12yrs service with no duty but to be spare every week.
Surely this sort of thing warranted serious discussion and debate with possibly a vote at the end of it.

Re: Local Agreements
An office with full-time and part-time members needs full-time reserves as well as part-time reserves.
Otherwise you have one of two things happening.
1) Every time a full-time member is on annual leave the office has to pay a part-timer a full-time wage, the budget goes through the roof and the manager gets sacked.
2) Every time a full-time member is on annual leave they are replaced by part-time hours and the entire office structure falls apart...and the manager gets sacked.
Seniority in a repick is always based around the office structure, you can't have all the duties held by full-timers unless you have a 95%+ full-time office.

Re: Local Agreements
Point taken, but some of the duties where full-time prior to a re-pick and only changed just before the re-pick. These duties have not changed either, still the same prep and still same outdoor work. Infact at least one duty is allegedly oversubscribed.fishtank wrote:An office with full-time and part-time members needs full-time reserves as well as part-time reserves.

If we continue to allow this the part-time ratio will be much higher than it is now. As you know when people leave they are either not replaced or a part-time contract fills the gap. So what then happens is you will have fewer and fewer full-time jobs. And the part-time people will run round to please their new masters. And management wont have to worry about paying overtime rate either hence the savings.

1.That depends on the budget at the start and 2.it allows for indoor lapsing as opposed to outdoor lapsing which is cleaner for everyone involved.fishtank wrote:An office with full-time and part-time members needs full-time reserves as well as part-time reserves.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Local Agreements
If you're going into a revision (outside London) it should not be planned with trapped costs or indoor lapsing opportunity already built in. In order to keep any structure and maintain a consistent EP you need to be able to replace like for like.clashcityrocker wrote:1.That depends on the budget at the start and 2.it allows for indoor lapsing as opposed to outdoor lapsing which is cleaner for everyone involved.
A full-timer should be covered by a full-timer and a part-timer by a part-timer, It's one of the ten commandments of the weekly resource meeting.

As far as I can see ,it is just a matter of a name against a duty, the p/t ,f/t thing is just a myth, created by some halfwit somewhere. If only those people who dream up these ideas had to put them into practice,we might get a lot less of them.

Re: Local Agreements
Back on topic though
Well kind of
Is there any way that I as a member can check the contents of agreements etc
Or are they available from cwu site?/my rep?
Only asking as there seems to be confusion in our do about a lot of issues
Some major some minor
Our reps on the ball but I feel that sometimes those of us who are inclined
And new to the business
Would be better able to help of slightly better informed
Oh and the correct term is chemically challenged
I won

Re: Local Agreements
Most of the national agreements are available at http://www.cwu.org/11586/agreements.html No idea if local agreements are online anywhere

To be back on topic originally posted.
Should unit reps be agreeing on local issues with management without consulting with the members?
