O/T Drying Up

Are there any other part timers on here struggling to get O/T in their offices? The management in my office have put 7 walks on permanent lapsing, making it hard to get any O/T now. Since I started, I've nearly always managed to get over 40 hours in, despite being on a 24 hour contract. I'm beginning to think I might have to start looking for another job. Gutted really because I'm quite happy doing this one

And that's all down to the guys that come in early don't take breaks and run around like lunatics on their walks then come back early showing the DOM he/she still has a hour or so left on his/her duty. Sad days ahead.

That is part of the problem. The main issue is managers are resourcing to budget not traffic.
The new legal protections will stop that when we vote yes.
Dave Ward says they will anyway !

We have regular bods from other offices coming in to cover duties along with managers going out on a sat. No one wants the OT we are feed up with it.

Well, if they want to keep giving out P/T contracts instead of F/T, they are goin to have to satisfy the need for O/T if they want to keep the staff. I wish I had known the situation before I applied. I honestly thought i'd do a year or 2 before getting a F/T contract. Last people to get F/T contracts in my office was over 9 years ago. Luckily this week i'm in early everyday to prep 2 walks covering a F/T colleague thats on holiday.

Yep I'm struggling with no over time,just on basic wages..already looking for another job!! It's a shame really as I like the job..oh well

i am my do rep and if I had 7 walks on permanent lapsing I would be checking IWT etc. lapsing is not to cover for illness or to save money eg to take money from an office to make budget fit a cut back. Also even if iwt says so does not mean set in stone it has to be done . it is done with agreement so eg if mail feed comes in late then you do not have time to lapse as lapsing is taken from indoor hours. Make sure iwt filled out properly. I have caught out more than one dom this way. eg if PHG or does any indoor isp that has not been set in the indoor hours it has to be taken into account. also if dom does any indoor it has to be taken into account. it all adds up.

If I am running late on indoor then I cannot lapse. if dom insists I tell him I will leave it til I finish then if i have time will do it. People coming in early and not taking meal breaks also creates an issue. Even 1 doing it can give 1 1/2 back into indoor work

O/t might be drying up, but there's no shortage of morons trying to kill the job. There's a young lad in our office who comes in two hours before his start time every day and throws his walk in for free.

Thing is,I'm in a large office & it really is the majority who are in early every morning.

To see someone who supposedly starts the same time as me with all the available mail & D2D in their frame @ 7am,when I'm just walking through the door is an everyday occurance.

The best thing is,a few of these comedians are on the CWU page on Facebook,spouting out to all & sundry about 'doing the job right',these are the exact same people who are rushing around & point blank refuse to use their LWT.

I'm not taking the Michael here,I'm sure some of this lot are suffering from some sort of illness,I mean,how fooooking stupid can people be?

Our DOM is proposing to slash hours left,right & centre. We lapse every day & no doubt there will be more walks taken out in the summer. Everyone is aware of this yet STILL they run,STILL they come in early to prep their D2D & STILL they're scratching to get out of the office at 8:30 even on the quietest Tuesday.

The job is dead,I'm seriously considering voting a big fat YES & I'm just taking the money & running.

Sick of trying to convince idiotic people of the error of their ways & with Privatisation,TNT & Amazon Deliveries on the horizon the days of the Postie are well & truly numbered in my opinion...& it's just so tragic....

The CWU Facebook page is notorious for attracting plastic union members, there are a couple from my DO who wouldn't know how to spell solidarity but the "big knobs" who appear to give out sage(usually wrong) advice lap it up.
I would rather be a militant loony or whatever they are calling us now.

I share your pain... on the whole though, me personally thinks this agreement is sooooo fookin wrong. It seems to me though your considering voting yes out of frustration due to inconsiderate colleagues cutting up the job...which I also think is wrong, but two wrongs don't make a right.

Your post is spot on and these posties as such.. who continue to cut up the job should hang their heads in shame. I think you will see sense though and vote no

Back in the days of last letter and home i could understand why some people would come in early to throw off their walks and run round like a mad thing. I could never be bothered to get up early myself, plus I'm not a fan of daytime tv lol. But people need to now understand you have to work all your hours like all other jobs that means turning up on time and finishing on time. Our rep made sure the office was locked up and not opened till our start time, that sorted the problem.
