All change!

Post by fly-catchers »

On leave this week and come back to revision as new duties starting next week! :thumbdown I am going on a HCT duty covering a round that in its current form also using an HCT has cut off's most days. I did this delivery many years ago by bike and its the kind where everyone on it orders lots of everything! In the ammended revision form it loses three roads and gains three roads so can't see it being any easier or quicker. Is it expected that you will do o/t for at least the first number of weeks while rounds "bed in" and the new IPS "speeds up"? I prefer to work to my time- but guess unless you do everything for a while you won't know just how over the top or correct it is. Any tips to reduce any stress over these next few months?

During the bedding in period it is expected that the deliveries may take longer than planned, this is called the learning curve, Whilst overtime is never compulsory it is helpful for the PIR process if members can where possible complete the duty using OT if necessary to give a true picture of the delivery issues.

What should be used to counteract this is an indoor performance "flight path" so if your planned performance is 90EP this should be rolled back to around 65EP and extra hours should be invested in the indoor to get you out earlier giving you enough time to complete the duties, as you move through the learning curve then those hours should be gradually reduced until you reach your target indoor performance, this can take a couple of months.

Of course if we're talking about a duty so badly planned that it's obviously way too long this needs to be addressed immediately.

Immediately :left: The only way they address these issues is blame the staff on a daily basis and use every under hand trick in the book to get people to stop out. How long will a culture change take if ever?

When our revision went live the planner's desk was dragged downstairs and parked in the corner of the office.
It was open season on the guy and at times I'm sure I saw him sobbing quietly but it meant issues were dealt with immediately.

Hard to see it running smoothly for quite some time. We are 2 staff under for the requirments anyway with 3 more on long term sick! Only the HCT duties are down to do the IPS. And although training was set up to get people used to the new duties only 2 people did it and I was not not one of them!
Intend to start on time- have my breaks and do the delivery as laid out- as I always have done. And cut off if needed.

Ours pissed off the Friday before it was due to start and despite dom's assurance they would have a planner on site for up to 12 weeks after we went live they never returned. Did see them watching an event at the Olympics in 2012 which they applied for whilst sat in our office doing sod all.

I Wonder what the EP in the North London offices with EP'S of 66 and 69 was rolled back to during the "flight path/bedding in period" :Very Happy :wave

Most flight paths resemble the last French Concorde to fly, by the sound of things. Can,t wait, ours starts in March.

If I were you I'd give it a couple of weeks completing. Do the job as we are supposed to do it. Establish exactly how long it does take to do the job claiming ot as necessary. Proper action can then be taken to adjust the walk so it works properly.
The other angle is dash around, cut corners and make sure that the job is completed within time. This is what happened at our office and many people shot themselves and others in their collective feet. Not using trolleys, cutting loops down to enable bags to be carried etc. Once you establish that jobs can be completed within the allocated time no matter how you do it it's too late, you are stuck with it.

You have a chance to establish the proper standard for this job. I'd say don't waste it. We did, and we live with the consequences almost every day.

Thats what I think I will do. I have never run round, cut corners but have cut off or claimed a bit of o/t if needed. So will claim some o/t for the first few weeks. The original idea I got with these marvellous revisions was not needing 2/3/4 bag drops and taking everything with you. Clearly even with a full but not overweight HCT that won't happen. So how are replenishments achieved? And surely in needing them it confirms that the revisions are not working as they were originally suppose to?

HCT Duty's are good, along with Rural deliveries.
I float between duties covering days off and have
a mixture of rounds. At least with HCT you are on your
own. Shared vans and the loop systems are pants.
I am a none driver and have to be a passenger.

Our revision has been done so that the driver's have
smaller loops than the passenger (walker). Reason
giving more time for driver to do parcels :left: :left:
Absolute rubbish parcels can be done together and the
loops should be the same  Our shared duties now
exceed 5 hours while rural and HCT about 4 - 4.5 Hours
Very fare you must agree :arrrghhh

We only have 2 HCT Duties when we should of had more
and we was told we would not be lapsing rounds after revision :left:

But Guess What - Just been told we will soon be lapsing the HCT rounds :Boo hoo!

And all the new part timers are being given there own rounds in front of people with more seniority. :Applause CWU = Chocolate Teapot :Applause
