Allocated leave whilst on sick leave :-(

Been on sick leave since Nov 26th due to having a tumour taken out of my chest(chest cracker) and whilst on leave I received a holiday pick form for my first 2 picks. Stated the two weeks i wanted in august and took it in when I was passing he brought up the holiday list and one week was full so I picked a week next to the ones I wanted so I still had two weeks together. 10 days ago I received another holiday pick form asking me to pick my final weeks leave (I purchase 2 weeks) so looks like i have missed the pick for my 3rd and 4th weeks.I rang up, but the DOM was in a conference so left a message, no call back after a few days so I ring again to find that he has gone on leave for a week. So today could not get in on Monday I visited the office again and he tells me because i never returned my3/4th week picks he has chosen them for me. I look at the list bearing in mind i was going to pick the half term weeks or at least one of them and I have a week in May and November.I had a frank discussion with him and told him he was out of order and I was not happy.i walked away to cool off and I look at the holiday list on the notice board and check out the weeks I wanted and straight away I see a few names who do not have kids and last year it was the same people that picked weeks to give to their mates and on some instances they worked the weeks arrrrghhhhh.
I challenge him on the people and he says that he knows whats going on but there is not a great deal he can do about it and refuses to challenge the named people FFS!!
So much for being family friendly my wife works in the NHS and has the same problems but with the schools fineing parents for taking children out of school this is going to be a pain.
Told him I wanted to cancel my 2 weeks that I purchase and that I would be wanting unpaid carers leave and he says he will only authorise it if allocation allows!!
Sorry for being long winded but about to pen a letter to my Area Rep and the DSM
To top it off he says that if I can to get into the delivery office i can work indoors in the PHG office, I,m signed off for 3 months and have not had my follow up appointment lifting and pushing is a no no

Firstly I wish you a speedy recovery.

I think the point is here that they bypassed your second pick and its their mistake. On that grounds unless they can prove otherwise I would ask your rep to insist you get offered the weeks that you wanted within the agreed allocation structure at your office.

I would not get too bogged down in who's got the same weeks again and the working of booked leave. I know its annoying (yes it goes on in my office as well) but that's really a separate issue. Get your own holiday sorted first, sounds like you got forgotten.

I have kids too, but didn't realize that gave you more reason to have a given week off than those who don't??

That's what I thought - it would be blatant discrimination if it did.

I hasten to add I do not expect to get all the weeks that I request but you would have thought he would have picked at least one of the half term weeks, all 4 were available to be picked when it was my turn according to the chap who is in front of me.
Greivance will be put in, failing that I will be taking 2 of the half terms off on the sick or on carers special leave
