If RM were to remove deliveries and replace with people having to collect their post, it would kill the letter business.
People would shifts statement etc online to save having to collect and can you see businesses large and small wanting to advertise via letter if its not even going to be delivered to the door. Me thinks not.

The big difference between us and Canada is that the UK is a condensed area. Whereas it makes sense for Canadian people to go collect thier post it's not really as of much benefit for RM to have UK residents do it. Many areas of Canada is so sparsely populated it's not worth employing a postman to drive a hundred miles just to deliver mail to 20 people!

Being a crowded little island does have it's benefits for delivery staff when it comes to job security!

Yes, as I pointed out on this forum a while ago the UK has a population of 673 per square mile while Canada has just 10 per square mile.

if this happens I bet lot of people won't even collect post that regularly so they can't read angry letters from banks and co.

I think evening packet delivery could become a reality in the future, RM maybe even charging a small premium for the service. They'll have to do something to stand out from the couriers.

There is a private company parcel pick up locker unit co located at a garage near me, could be the sign of the future.
