If you can get fired for being off sick, why does IHR exist?
Does anyone know why? It seems illogical that royal mail would give sick/injured employees off a large pay off, if they could just wait for their sickness to pile up and sack them.

IHR is used in cases where someone can no longer work in their function in the business (or not at all) due to a medical condition.
The attendance procedure is used to sack people who fall foul of the agreed attendance procedures on multiple occasions.
You can't get IHR if you had a bad back for a few weeks, a bout of flu over Xmas and then an ankle injury sustained in a 5-a-side football game.
But that could lead to you being sacked.

Strange post! Sadly, may people do become genuinely sick or disabled, especially in this job.Employers do have aduty. However, I suspect some way down the line, this will all change!-

How long do you have to be off sick before getting sacked? I've never had a day off in my life but recently I've had to take a lot of time off, so much in fact that my manager has called for me to go in and see him?
