It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

why to lapse dutys , does that make all reserves exempt from the last deal of the century 2010 , as in long weekends , etc , have royal fail ever honoured any agreements at all , and the cwu are trying to get a yes vote on this so called deal of the decade , when they are just doing what suits them.

All staff, including reserves, are entitled to a minimum 1 in 6 Saturdays off.
Agree with FT, no need for sit in, tell them no, and go down the official routes.

I think the CWU is not too bothered themselves about Reserves - they tend to just worry about duty holders and then leave how Reserves are treated to local arrangement.
In a lot of offices, most people are also not that bothered about the unfairness towards Reserves: they come in on their days off, they stay on their duties on said days off, people ask for extra days (usually saturdays) off outside their normal days (it is the reserves that get shafted) and people are generally too self-centred to care.
Hats off to this office for standing with their Reserve colleagues.
* Floaters and/or duty covers are also been unfairly treated...

Yes that's exactly how it is in our office. Nobody cares, as long as everyone's alright Jack they couldn't give a toss about the reserves and floaters. There's a few in our office that haven't had a Saturday off in 9 months!

it is about time union started treating all employees fairly i have asked rep and he says there is nothing he can do as we are short staffed we can not have resign despite me being senior to several people on own walks

I will suggest that any walk holder that wants extra saturdays off should surrender or be ready to surrender their own rota saturday off so that a Reserve can a saturday off, where necessary.
I know some will say that the managers have planned for annual leaves and days off and all that but I have a feeling that the planning is rarely ever that detailed. For example, someone on two week annual leave (2 saturdays) could return to having another saturday immediately and that could be repeated for someone with 6 weeks hols.
You can also had the fact that people on long-term sick has to be covered and then they can still take their normal holidays. People can also buy extra holidays. No wonder some reserves rarely get saturdays off (we are not even talking long weekend)
Lastly, people rarely come in on their saturday day off and there is also the odd sickies on saturday.
Alternatively, they should start paying Reserve posties extra allowances for being treated as second class posties and for being so versatile and adaptable.

Oh no wait a minute lots of those dirty rotten duty holders were reserves once too and had to put up with all the crap before they got thier own duties. Those lowly duty holders also have to deliver all thier leaflets and deliver all thier mail they can't get away with saying "oops sorry I forgot it was there!"

I guess you are missing the fact that some part timers are Reserves too. The only reason why these issue has come to the fore more is that being a Reserve is not just about being junior anymore. We have part-timer with 2 years service who are walk holders and people on 8 years who are FT Reserves

The whole office had a sit in and you go into one about how hard done by reserves are and how selfish duty holders are! As per usual another one of your rants about how unfair reserves are treated and how bad duty holders are. Little news flash for you, it's down to the managers who does what, who covers what and on what days. It's not down to the duty holders if they keep on thier rounds. They can request it but it's not thier decision. So for christs sake stop going on about how hard done by reserves are and all the bullshit about how they should be paid extra for doing what they are paid to do ie fill in the gaps they are RESERVES and it's thier job!
