Can they do this?
After returning to work this morning after a week off, I was confronted by another member of staff from the caller's office telling me I have now been shifted off my floaters job, which I've been doing since August, because another member of staff wasn't happy and wanted to go back in the caller's 3 days a week so now I'm being made a reserve again. Surely if I've been given my own round they can't just decide because someone else isn't happy with what they're doing they can kick me off it without even discussing it with me first. I haven't had chance to speak to anyone yet as the manager who decided to change things wasn't in today. I can't say I'm happy as everyone else seemed to know about it before me and took great delight in winding me up about it all morning. I'm guessing it's because I've only been there a year and on a temporary contract they can treat you how they like.

I could be off the mark, but have you actually signed for it as part of a resign? That may make a difference

Re: Can they do this?
No I haven't. I was just given a table back in August with what jobs I'll be doing and what my days off are up until the end of March this year. It included being in the caller's office 3 days a week and out delivering covering days off on the same 2 rounds for the other 2 days. I'm presuming now then that my days off are going to be either Monday & Tuesday every week again.lala wrote:I could be off the mark, but have you actually signed for it as part of a resign? Re: Can they do this?
It is so annoying when some people are so insensitive - anything and everything is chance to poke fun and wind people up...
Lack of communication is something I find so so maddening. A manager sometimes changes what I have been put down on the rota without telling but you walk in and it seems everyone else knows about it...
It is simple courtesy!
Can they shift you? Probably as I guess you might not have signed for the duty as you are on a temporary contract. It will make no sense for you to sign for a duty whilst still being temporary...
* It is tough but I guess you just have to chin up and get on with it...

Yes it's amazing isn't it how everyone else gets to find out about it before you. I wouldn't mind but half the people don't even bother talking to you most of the time but as soon as they think there's going to be a bit of hassle they swarm around you asking if you're ok and how they were there for 10 years being messed about before they got their own rounds lol..It's like no place I've ever worked at before, some really strange folk and you always have to watch what you're saying and to whom.chrisj wrote:It is so annoying when some people are so insensitive - anything and everything is chance to poke fun and wind people up...

They way I look at it is it's a job at the end of the day and I'm lucky to have one, but it would be nice to know what you're going to be doing so you can prepare yourself instead of walking through the door every day with your stomach in knots not knowing where you're going to be or if you've ever done that job before.

Re: Can they do this?
You state that the colleague who originally manned the callers office for three days has now decided that they wish to return to this duty after having vacated it from August 2013 going by your table from August to March 2014. You have not been specific in explaining why this person was allowd to change their duty in the first place and the reason for it. Is this person also a reserve or on a temporary contract because if it was their actual signed duty then they could only leave with a duty swop or a downgrading
You should put your case to the manger that you have been instructed to cover this duty up to March and they should at least honour his agrreement
Why has this duty not been subject to a vacant duty resign?

To be honest I don't know the full details yet as to why this person was kicking off until I speak to the manager about it tomorrow. They used to work afternoons in the callers and I did early mornings. They're not on a temporary contract either as they've been with RM about 10 years.rehabron wrote:You state that the colleague who originally manned the callers office for three days has now decided that they wish to return to this duty after having vacated it from August 2013 going by your table from August to March 2014. How does working in the callers office in the afternoons displace you from continuing in the callers office in the early mornings? Not getting fully to grip with your situation.

Because he's going to be doing my shifts in the morning instead. Like I said, I don't know the full details yet until I go in tomorrow.rehabron wrote:How does working in the callers office in the afternoons displace you from continuing in the callers office in the early mornings? Good answer. You have already said you did not know the full details and manager is off. The established posties are not likely going to tell you anyways.

Re: Can they do this?
Yes it would probably have been more productive ifyou had waited until you had all the information concening this colleagues abilty to change their duty from back shifts to early shifts without the involvement of the CWU rep before submitting your post. Look forward to yur next posting on this subject once all the facts have been established.chrisj wrote:Good answer. You have already said you did not know the full details and manager is off. Re: Can they do this?
Ok so I found out today the floaters job I started in August was originally this other persons job, 3 days in the callers and 2 days out on delivery due to having a medical complaint and not being able to go out on delivery 5 days a week. Come August the medical problem seemed to have cleared up so put back out on delivery and the job was offered to me. Fast forward to January the complaint is back so unable to go out on delivery and this is why I've been shifted so this person can have the round back. I've been offered another floaters job but was informed as most of them come in on their days off I will be put on any job that needs covering.

Re: Can they do this?
Take the floaters job, but inform your Manager that if any of the duty holders wish to work their days off, then it is they who will be doing any job which needs covering, not you!Barbel wrote: I've been offered another floaters job but was informed as most of them come in on their days off I will be put on any job that needs covering.
