REVISION REPICK

Our office will be having a repick in a about a month. What is the criteria for temporay contract employees picking duties. Is it based on length of service or is it based on size of contract, i.e. largest contract hours picks first and so on?

It should be length of service I'd have thought, but regardless of time served I don't think anyone will be able to pick a duty that is more than their contracted hours unless they are being made up.

I've spoken to a few full timers in my office on this subject. They all say that it boils down to seniority. The most senior get to pick first and it just goes down the line till all walks are taken. I think they plan on pairing them up with the most senior part timers. The rest, like myself, will just be pushed from pillar to post to fill in the gaps, unfortunately............. Fortunately, there will be plenty of gaps to fill!

If you've bin in r mail for years you end up with no choice to pick from ,,but if you're part time and no long in the door youlle have a lovely selection of duties to pick from .

i thought you had to be on a permanent contract to sign for a duty

Not in this revision ,guys bin here for years left with last duties or even floating ,even in a cpl cases reserve jobs!

I don't think you'll find a definitive answer because to be honest it's not a situation that anyone would envisage cropping up.
The only reason to keep someone on a temporary contract for any length of time is because there is a possibility they may not be required after a revision, how that scenario gels with the idea of them actually getting a pick of a duty in a resign I have not a scooby.

Ignoring the temporary aspect for a moment for permanent contracts the basic criteria for a resign is seniority however duties have to be matched to contracts and you can't pick a full time duty if you're part-time until all other full-time contracts have picked theirs.

That means if there is one full-time duty left and two of you fighting over it the one with the contract with the closest match to the duty would get it to minimise surplus.

All that goes out the window though with a temporary contract though because they could just change it to suit at the renewal date anyway.
