When working your day off is this sa or just normal overtime?

normal overtime, sa is when you do it as part of a duty on a regular basis. i.e. a collection every week on overtime year round.

SA has been well explained - you probably have to sign for it anyway as it is continuous and you have to make yourself available or find cover; so it is not like normal OT.

However, OT around Xmas pressure time is paid as SA.

Its will not be allowed, of course. But this poster is relatively new starter and such and information should be easily obtained at work but then some new starters do not get spoken to for a while. Or too embarrassed to ask question.

They are, even if you do extra hours on SA you are entitled to extra breaks if the hours in total worked warrant it

Also OT at Xmas is not always paid at SA rate it's paid at whatever rate has been agreed locally

This is exactly what has happened in some offices.
They are deliberately understaffed to allow plenty of overtime (maintain local earnings) and if you have no floaters to cover those duties, people have been allowed to sign for them on a long term basis, attracting SA payments.

There's a guy in my office who works his day off every single week. It's so annoying as I'm meant to cover his day off but as he's allowed to come in every week and I then get chucked on any old job.

You should involve your rep in that. On his day off it is your duty. You shoild only be moved with your agreement. If he wants the OT he should do the duty available for OT.

Or when it's your day off and you fancy a bit of overtime suggest you'll come in but only to do his duty. See how he likes it.
