Sat/Mon Rest Days

For those of us on a five day week, getting something like 1 in 6 saturday (or monday) restday, why do we have to wait until the week before to have it confirmed?

I accept the nature of the job etc requires us to be flexible, but surely there could be some sort of rigidity put in place with regard Saturdays/Mondays off; why can't we be told something like 3 weeks ahead, you definitely have saturday the ? off, so we can at least plan one decent weekend every 2 months?

If you are on the same duty every week,and on a rotating day off then you will definitely get the 1 in 6 Saturday off.
But if you are a reserve then it will obviously a nightmare in this day and age to get a Saturday off at all!

My previous job, I worked sat and sundays every week, so now im just happy I get sunday off, if I get sat then its a bonus

Have you had your bt2010 revision,if so at the minimum you should be getting a 2 in 6 saturday off

I've only been in the job for about 9 weeks, the last 5 weeks on the same route while someone is on the sick; no idea when they are due back and if i'll be off that route then.
I've no idea about a bt2010 revision.

I too have been in a job which included Sat/sun, but my days off were the Monday/Tuesday .... it's not so much having saturday off with sunday, but having 2 days off together and having sufficient notice of this occurring. I'm coming to the end of my 3 month contract and the difficulty in booking holidays and not having a regular weekend really put me off the job.

First of all it's 1 in 4 according to BT2010 not 2 in 6 and secondly that will depend on what's been locally agreed.
There are some offices who have stuck with 1 in 6 in an effort to protect full-time numbers. Whether they were right to do this is another debate but that's where they are and if that's the agreed position in an office it's difficult to see where an individual member could go with it.
It's possible to take out an individual grievance or even in theory go down the ET route but there are far too many holes in the BT2010 agreement to make that worthwhile.
