Officially booking overtime.

Hi

In my office we have to phone up the manager to book overtime. At the end of the shift. Is this acceptable? I am hearing that other offices don't do this. Other offices have a manager who accepts what is written on the time sheet. Does Royal Mail have a official overtime booking procedure?

I think the unofficial policy is to mention (in no order of preference) flexibility, traffic being down, that day's traffic, the computer, performance standards (agreed and unagreed, indoor and outdoor), a day you finished early some months ago, banking of hours and the share price.
Then the overtime is forgotten.

my procedure in regards to overtime is to cut off and stick their overtime

I cut off too, do hours I'm paid for . They cannot understand that once my hours are done, I go home and enjoy my life away from the nastiness that is the Royal Mail way nowadays.

Yea we have to let manager know before we go out too, crazy, next he will be asking us to predict the scores...

In our office we just write our overtime in when we get back, the overtime sheet is available for anyone to write in, no lock and key like in some offices. I think if our manager tried to do that everyone would say you can shove your overtime if management are going to make life hard just make life hard back for them

I have never seen a docket sheet or OT sheet except one generated around Xmas time a few years back and that was obvious why - everyone was going over.

Normally, you tell the manager (argue sometimes etc) and they write it on a scrap piece of paper, or nod or say OK... Then you might get paid (if they remember) or think you deserve. You might even have some time knocked off - but will only find out in pay slip or if you are pally with Office guys.

I do not understand why my office is not up in arms about not having a docket sheet but that is the way it has been for a very long time - at least 6/7 years running...

If you have had a Delivery Revision then you will have a PDA then you can make the call or get them to ring you at a given time

The Administrator in our SUB (Employed by Co-op) has to submit the overtime daily to the DO we are attached to.
No problems to date. The day or week it does not get paid is the week we all start cutting off. No Pay, No Play.

This is ridiculous. Until my manager gives me a phone i won't phone him, and even then it will be emergencies only.

What exactly are you meant to do? Ring him up and say my times up and I have 30 mins of work left to do, will be pay me for it?

In my office there is a sheet to fill in. Not unreasonably, the manager would like to know what time you leave the office and how much overtime you estimate you will need to finish your duty. I usually add about an hour to what I estimate. Then, at the end of the shift, you write down your finish time and how much overtime you have actually worked. This gets signed by manager and you get paid. Sometimes, the amount of overtime is questioned, and you just need to justify it, and maybe make it clear you are close to not working overtime ever again. Every now and again 'swings and roundabouts' is mentioned and they try to do you out of half an hour as you finished 10 mins early on tuesday.
