It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Employees should be allowed reasonable time off when bereaved. The amount of time required will vary depending on the employee’s relationship with the deceased and the circumstances of the bereavement. Up to one week with pay should be allowed for the death of next of kin or a blood relative (spouse, civil partner, child, parent, or sibling) One day with pay for parent in law or grandparent (or equivalent in a civil partnership or long-standing unmarried relationship). This is usually to attend the funeral.
Does not include aunt or uncle. Are you not aware of this new rm policy?

As far as we're aware on here there is no new document on this.
Rule number 1 when a screw opens its mouth spouting agreements, always get the scrote to pop back into its office and get any new agreement/policy from the intranet.
Will double check with justsayit just in case and report back.

Re: Bereavements can they count as absences.?.
don't think Aunt/Uncle are part of the paid S/L policy. When my aunt died a few years ago I had to take it as A/L.
When my dad was killed I got 3 days paid S/L, thought I would take the minimum so they would be lenient when it comes to all the crap that was due to follow....ie Court. To attend court hearings etc I've had to use A/L not sure what happens regarding attending the coroners inquest, no doubt I'll have to use that as A/L aswell
