Vans and tread depth

Now I'm aware that the legal minimum limit for tyre tread is 1.6mm....

Is there an RM policy or guidance on when you should request the tyres to be changed or is it a case of change them as soon as they hit 1.6mm?

no official policy on when, but it doesnt suddenly hit 1.6mm overnight unless youve been doing dohnuts in the yard, and you measure the tread depth weekly with a gauge so when its getting close ie 1.8mm ish i would be informing manager tyre needs to be replaced soon rather than just informing him about it one morning when its not legal to drive

On my driving conversion the instructor said that you should inform the transport office @ about 2mm which gives them plenty of time to get new tyres organised.

you said report it when it is illegal, so by your reasoning its not illegal at 1.6mm so not time to report it, when its less than 1.6mm you would report it ie at 1.5mm
