Amazon deliveries on Sunday

I have just taken advantage of the 30 day free Prime delivery trial to get some new boots.

I ordered late Friday and got a message saying I would get a delivery on Monday however today I got an email saying I would get it today and sure enough I did.
The courier company has been doing this for about 6 weeks apparently.

I don't know about rural areas but I can say that in some of the big urban/city areas in the UK this is nothing new and has been happening every day for the past 4+ years. Royal Mail Same-Day actually have the contract with Amazon, but they sub the work out to numerous regional courier firms, some of whom will even have their logo imprinted on the address section of the parcel. Vans from one of the courier firms provide a collection service from Amazon's midlands hub around mid-day. They then take the work to a regional depot where it gets split between numerous other regional couriers, who then divide the work into cost-effective routes between their self-employed drivers for afternoon/evening delivery. You may notice when using Amazon's Prime service that it states a delivery window of between 1830 and 2130, but in reality it can be earlier or later depending on the circumstances. The scale of work is really not comparable to what Royal Mail deals with. For example a driver could typically have between about 10 to 15 consignments spread out over an entire postcode area, sometimes even less. The rate of pay is also less than desirable to say the least, and usually remains the same flat-rate regardless of how long it takes the driver to complete.

It more about Overhead and pay rate... Not worth it for RM based on the small numbers involved; Xmas excepting.

But it is news to hear that RM are sub-contracting on parcel deliveries... Where does that stand with the new legal protections? Or is just that Parcel Force are being shafted even more. It looks like the much vaunted parcels gold mine will be the first to be butchered up.

They are not sub contracting the previous poster is mistaken, Amazon use more than one delivery company including royal mail and other couriers, we dont have exclusivity for delivering not even the same day or prime products

Dozen, i will be interested in a link please to substantiate your claim. This will have a substantial impact on the Agenda for Growth policy as to this new National Trade agreement between the CWU and Royal Mail. i am not talking of the likes of TNT, UKmail etc

RM definitely do not subcontract out parcel deliveries, what facts are you basing your claims that they do on? other than some other couriers print their company names on some address labels for the items they are delivering for amazon?

I'm sure I've read posts from owner-drivers doing sub-contracted parcel or pallet courier work for Royal Mail Same-Day.
Certainly not in relation to the topic of this thread, i.e. Amazon Prime & Sunday.
Those posts would be on codforum.org.uk/forums and I assume the work would be outside the scope of RM's normal business.

I had a delivery today from amazon, delivered by amazon logistics. I ordered the package late on friday evening. I expected it to be delivered by RM but this is becoming less routine. Three out of four of my last orders have come via amazon logistics.

You have to have your own van and cover all expenses like insurance and fuel. I am tempted to jump ship before Royal Mail sinks. i looked into it a few years back... but the problem with it (at that time atleast) was that you had to be set up to handle your own work as the "Sameday" service wouldnt provide you a set ammount of work per day/week/month... meaning you would have to make sure you had access to other courier work to keep you going...

fair enough it wouldnt be much of an issue if you were doing it and kept busy...
if you are wanting to go down that sort of route... i'd look at the "Parcelforce" owner/driver set up... you would probably be more likely to have a constant stream of work... rather than the here and there fill in jobs from RM Sameday...
