day off scheduled for wednesday (new years day)

My day off for next week has been scheduled for wednesday. How does this work as it's a bank holiday. Do I get a lieu day, if so how and when do I get it, do they automatically give it to me whenever they want to or is it like an extra days holiday and I have to book it.

The day will be added to your annual leave entitlement.
Ask for a print out and make sure it is.
You can then request it at a time that is convenient to you.

Or you could ask to be paid the hours on Wednesday.

My day off is also Wednesday, and I've asked them to pay me it, as overtime. It's your choice whether you want paid or an extra days holiday.

I asked an old rep and apparently its down to the managers discretion.

3.4 Rest days will apply in line with normal year round arrangements. Attendances may be varied by local agreement to take account of workload forecasts and service requirements. Where workload requires people can volunteer to work their normal rest day in return for a day in lieu or scheduled attendance

Where a rest day falls on a Bank Holiday (i.e. 25, 26 December or 1 January, plus 2 January in Scotland) and it is not operationally sensible to transfer the rest day to another day in the same week people will receive an additional day holiday (including those working ‘a week off in six’ or other variations on this theme) in the form of a day in lieu or alternatively the excess hours can be taken as normal overtime.

It is in black and white (and now red) in the xmas arrangements 2013/2014.
It isn't down to anyone's discretion.

It's not me that says it is OK, it is the xmas arrangements as agreed between RM and the CWU.
If nobody abides by those agreements, what is the point of having them?
Where is the written agreement that it is down to a manager's discretion?

The only part that is in some way down to a manager's discretion is the "operationally sensible to transfer the rest day to another day " part.
That obviously comes down to an individual unit's operational resourcing plan.
