So,4 or 5 people at my office managed to get today and tomorrow off as annual leave, that coupled with the inevitable few that went sick left them in the s**t.
I hope that will teach them next year not to allow anyone any leave until Monday 27th Dec at the earliest.
Rant over,thank you and goodnight!

They would not be in the s**t, they'd just lapse
Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

Re: Annual leave today & tomorrow
Next year it will just be a question of Saturday 27th so one days leave for that would surely be less likely.Bahia Feliz wrote:So,4 or 5 people at my office managed to get today and tomorrow off as annual leave, that coupled with the inevitable few that went sick left them in the s**t.

My office aloud holidays after the 25th, so way back in april I put in for it straight away, I assumed it was the same at every office, if you wanted those days off you should have got in quick, don't moan about it now!

If you want xmas off just put your A/L request in earlier. I always make it my 1st choice though have'nt for next year as I heard a rumour that RM may put in for a non service day for the Saturday next year.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets
Illegitimi non carborundum

On our A/L signing sheet w/c 23/12 was a 'no leave' allowed week so it's not a question of 'moaning about it now' as you say.Skull21 wrote:My office aloud holidays after the 25th, so way back in april I put in for it straight away, I assumed it was the same at every office, if you wanted those days off you should have got in quick, don't moan about it now!

Not likely Storm.
Remember the carry on in 2008 the last time December 27th fell on a Saturday?
Usually we get a no service day when Boxing Day falls on a Saturday and Monday 28 December is a Bank Holiday which will be 2015 so not too long to wait.As far the 27th December is concerned a decision was taken by the Postal Executive not to pursue an Industrial Action ballot to achieve a day off. This was due to a number of influencing factors, in the main these being the fact that Royal Mail were not prepared to support a claim to Postcomm for this to be a non service day, there was also concern that we could play into Postcomms hands by being prepared to strike over having the Saturday off at a time when the indications were that Postcomm were supporting a Monday Friday service. There is also the potential Mail Centre dispute, the issues regarding pensions, the new delivery model and of course the findings of the Hooper review.
It was also very likely that the media would have had a field day. In our view it was necessary to prioritise the issues and we are sure that similarly our Branches would not have placed the 27th December high enough on the list of priorities to warrant industrial action.
Other considerations were the number of our members who would not be working on the Saturday anyway and this would include member right across the industry. There are also weekend workers who would stand to lose a third of their wages.
Whilst it could be construed that it would a be a popular move amongst many of our members, it is clearly not the right issue to go to war on at this particular time.
The attached document includes a provision, agreed with Royal Mail, to jointly examine possibilities for more people to have time off, particularly on the 27th and this may be worth exploring in local discussions.
In general the feedback we have received via representatives and recent briefings/meetings supports the decision we have taken regarding the 27th December 2008.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share
