wrong and unfair planning
The planner's have been and gone to our office and have not done a great job! When the resign was carried out it has been done unfairly, Senior post persons were not offered some walks and less senior staff got them. I was badly advised and I am now on a walk where I found out the person before me sprinted round cutting across grass etc. This walk had not been planned. Any advice on this ?

Re: wrong and unfair planning
We have the same problem in our office. The planners came and went and the walks are now unbalanced with many way too long. The management blame the planners and refuse to change them. The union rep called a meeting and it was agreed not to have a repick until the walks are changed. This looks unlikely to be resolved any time soon and we now have more senior postmen being moved around the office and used as reserves while guys with less seniority are allowed to stay on walks that have just been given to them. Re: wrong and unfair planning
Apparently the revised walks were planned using Google Earth which is supposed to have taken into consideration the terrain, including distance between calls, accessibility (length of driveways/cut-acrosses/steps and location of letterbox etc.) along with travel time. The 'All jobs are the same' epithet was thus created and like 'we love parcels' is now quoted sarcastically by delivery staff every day. Some are complete dollies and some are monsters. The DOMs know this by feedback from the reserves who cover them, but seldom is anything taken off of the monsters. They just rely on you to do o/t or put the quicker blokes on them who can rush them in time.

Re: wrong and unfair planning
Worked in 5 different D. O,s and its more or less the same old story. The revisions and the new methods of delivery were dreamt up by someone in an office whos never delivered a peice of mail iN THEIR LIFE!! ITS nothing short of shameful. Its all kidology... This kidology can be traced back to the british right wing press saying that posties are walking too slow and should walk faster [cira 2002/10] Park and loop!!!..Oh I better keep up with my partner!!!Using bikes is a health and safety issue.... oor right but they,ll send you out in snow and ice risking breaking your neck!! We ALL know the jobs gone to pot with unreasonable workloads. We all know that a large number of posties are not doing the job properly ie working through breaks comming in early etc...The union is weak and I feel things will only get worse...people have bills ,mortages and the powers that be know theyve got you by the short and curlys....

Re: wrong and unfair planning
This manager says planners won't be back? Surely there is enough problem walks to get something done about it. Google earth obviously did not work. So they should use a new method that does, like following us on a at least average day. The union needs to speak to the runners, no break, too early, not using trolleys, mess it up for everyone jokers

Re: wrong and unfair planning
It is rife . I notice a lot of people working through their breaks , start on their frames early and rush round on their delivery ,through out and especially on a Saturday to get a flyer . For what reason ?

The problem is you CANNOT get the managers to test a walk for you, they will not bat an eyelid . This is what must change , get the bosses on the streets not stuck in managing nothing and no-one. Fed up of quoting this and won't stop it.
Why are lino's paid full-time ??

A few lads in my office got tested, the manager(s) wrote reports that they had too much work.
Low and behold, a couple of days later, they were accused of poor performance.
Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Rep.

Shunted Around? - repeat raikky's mantra - 'Just work to your best. Come in on time. Have your break. Use the methods.
You know you'll be going over so let your 'manager' tell you how much to cut off and make sure he knows that anything you can't deliver in your contracted time will need to be delivered in overtime. If the overtime is unavailable or you don't want it then he needs to know that anything you can't deliver in your contracted time will be bought back.
This needs to be agreed with your Rep present because you are within your rights but, sigh, you are questioning 'management's' judgement - Stand Firm.
