Help! Made a mistake on collections

Hi,


This afternoon on collections i collected a red meter bag from a business, scanned the barcode and selected meter on the PDA. When I got back to the DO to put the van away and go home i found the bag in the back of the van behind the spare wheel. At that point it was too late for the bag to make it to the mail centre which is 20 odd miles away and the van carrying the mail there was long gone, so after wondering what to do i ended up just posting it back in the box outside. The bag had four 2nd class letters and one stamped letter with todays date.
How serious is this?? Should I expect a grilling when i go in tomorrow from my Manager or worse?

its potentially serious, depends on your DOM, if its the first time you've made a mistake like that then your probably only going to get a ticking off and told to be more careful in the future, if dom wants to be an arse then he could take it more seriously and go down the conduct route where at most you should get is a official warning, or if you've made repeated similar mistakes and are already on a warning and still messing up then it could be worse, though i would suggest that if its just a one off and you speak to him very first thing in the morning tell him honestly what happened then you will be fine

Meter pouches get put in boxes all the time by companies.

I constantly pick up meter bags out of post boxes, they just go straight in my sack with the rest of the meter i've picked up that day so I dont see how anyone would know.

As said previously. I'm sure there isn't many collection drivers who hasn't done the same, at least you saw it before handing in the van keys. Not to mention the letters are second class so rm should meet their obligations seeing as most of the time they arrive within 2 days

So basically the majority of the advice is not to say a thing, seems a little dishonest to me, he has made a mistake best option is to tell truth about it straight away rather than hiding the fact he has made a mistake

You made a mistake and put it right. The mail will still get there on time. No need to tell a lino every time we correct a mistake. .

Look green,keep clean and volunteer for f*** all. In other words don't give them the chance to do you over by presenting them with a reason to do so. If it is pointed out to you then fair enough , until then,deny everything Baldrick!
