Yes, I was concerned about that for a while which is why I delayed joining the CWU, because I didn't want to donate money to Lab Party but I was assured there was an opt out. I couldn't see it on the form though, so that answers my question! Even the rep told me he doesn't vote for them lol.....
I remember my induction when the CWU chap came round to enrol us, and 2 or 3 of us independently asked if we could join without paying Labour. He looked bemused (bit of an old dinosaur I'd say) that people would want to join the union and not support Labour. We had a friendly discussion and I said "Look around you - most of these people come from Shire Towns in xxxx region where Labour MP's are seen less than Shergar..."
Whichever party people support they need jobs, including postal delivery ones. I joined CWU to support colleagues and have their backing via the Union if I ever needed it. The union should represent ALL political persuasions. I understand there are rumblings within some parties or unions to break away from the old political ties. May make sense, as the 3 main parties have all converged now, 'LiLaC' some call them 'one name, one party'. I don't think that oily foreigner with the nose that needs resetting who leads Labour now is that keen on union involvement either.
