Need some waterproof boots.

My Dr Martens end up soaked after about 3 hours with waterproof trousers covering half of it, so not much good, even though they are really comfortable.

I bought some Hanwag Special Forces GTX boots, very expensive but better than the rubbish provided, being diabetic , looking after my feet is paramount,they are waterproof and the most comfortable boots I have ever had.

Very much doubt you would get an allowance unless you have a doctors note to say you require some kind of specialist/orthopaedic footwear?

Why not just order a second pair of Cat boots/trainers that you can change into halfway round and then wear to go home in whilst leaving your wet pair on a radiator in the office to dry over night, that's what I do.

If you have an accident in non regulation footwear, you will be in trouble. Doesn't matter how good they are. When you have an accident on delivery, you have to sign paperwork confirming you were wearing the correct uniform etc for insurance purposes.

That as maybe so, however I have the required note from the Dr,as he knows what Royal Mail are like and my health is the priority over everything else. I thought new entrants had to,have footwear ordered on commencement of their employment,that was the case last year,probably changed though.

We all managed to get RM wellies. Ask your friendly manager. If ours managed to order them then yours should be able to as well.

all i have is some sealskin water proof socks then it doesn't matter about the boots, put wet boots on the next day, they dry out, the socks keep me dry

At the induction they said oh day one order your uniform and boots, you will get a hi-viz vest and I'd card when you get to your delivery office - nothing.
The first thing they said is nope we're not ordering anything yet and took out uniform order sheets off us, no vest and no I'd card.
Wouldn't care but got absolutely soaked to the skin today !

And before anyone says go see your union rep it appears we don't have one, no one visited to introduce themselves to us or even call, I did join the union on the day of my induction !

Sounds like the new entrants at our office treated like s**t. If RM aren't supplying the staff with correct equipment refuse to go out ...simple.

I have just started using them too, so far so good, RM should buy them wholesale, UK made too.

Get some dubbin, a wax product a bit like shoe polish that waterproofs leather shoes.

I was given them, Thin mid length (£22) I use with the Cat Trainers and mid weight knee length (£25) with my boots.
I have just started using them and they do have a set life span and there are washing instructions which must be followed.
The mid knee lenght are really warm and give great support to your legs.
They keep my feet dry all day, I can now wear my cat trainers in the rain and still have dry feet.
Yes they do cost a lot of money, they do have a set life span, If Royal Mail could buy in volume then I think it would work out well for all of us. On a walking duty my Cat trainers last 2 months, sealskinz socks will last longer.

You wear Cat trainers in the wet? Are you crazy? For me they are almost as slippy as Magnums.
