I shall be voting "yes"
After a long and protracted negotiating period we are to be presented with a deal.
I have now decided I will be voting "yes".
We have a three year pay deal.
Back pay worth to me, by the time it is paid in mid Feb 2014, nearly £800 after tax.
Protections as good as any one is going to get up to early 2019.
I feel there is noting to gain from continuing our dispute.
Postal workers in deliveries, hopefully will have their issues addressed.
So every thing considered it's a "yes" from me.

But you must admit that the highlighted part is a bit much for a deal heralded as ground breaking and nothing is agreed till everything is agreed.stephen500 wrote:After a long and protracted negotiating period we are to be presented with a deal.

However, as I am still a fence sitter, its good that you have made a decision to vote, even if not everyone will agree with it.

And that is what democracy is all about.
I will accept and abide by the decision of the membership.
Others are happy to trumpet they will be voting "no", so I thought I would be honest and give my position.

Re: I shall be voting "yes"
i am going to wait until our area rep comes to sell us the deal so that i can grill him on the pros and cons of the deal,i want to know specifically what his views are on what if any improvement this deal brings to delivery staff so i can sit and watch him squirm. Then i will decide whether to vote yes or no.

Will work for 6 months to a year. Then both parties will ditch it. However 70 disagreements across the UK up to this point? Fill your boots now. Throw the sink at it. Then it is back to square one.

and you are apparently retiring soon - neither of these conditions invalidates an opinion, merely colours it.dvbuk55 wrote:stephen500 wrote:And that is what democracy is all about.

Well I think it does. It is merely a question of solidarity or I'm alright jack and we know where Stephen stands, where I stand after 25 years in delivery but then there are the waverers who will probably abstain being unable to make a decision one way or t'other.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:and you are apparently retiring soon - neither of these conditions invalidates an opinion, merely colours it.dvbuk55 wrote:stephen500 wrote:And that is what democracy is all about.

There are two things in this deal that should have every delivery officer voting NO. The failure to respond to the problems in delivery other than some future wishy washy ideals but by far and away the no strike deal coloured however you like that is an issue that every member of the CWU should be vehemently against wherever they work.
As for the back pay, that is a short term gain for a lengthy agreement that despite the protestations of being "legally binding" could just as easily be written on rice paper for the likelihood of any longevity when it doesn't suit the board.

I don't know how u worked out 800 quid after tax? I work out its under 400 after tax! 3 per cent of 400 x by about 46 weeks? Its no where near 1200 quid!!! Which would be 800 after tax!stephen500 wrote:After a long and protracted negotiating period we are to be presented with a deal.

Really this deal is about 2 things IMO, on the face of it looks like a decent enough deal BUT can you trust the management to honour the agreement and IF the deal were to be rejected is there any prospect at all of negotiating something better.
My answer would have to be NO and NO ...

Re: I shall be voting "yes"
The bottom line is it's another "trust" deal but this time the stakes are far higher because it comes with a giant carrot-shaped stick in the guise of protections linked to an agreement not to take national industrial action.Budfrog wrote:Really this deal is about 2 things IMO, on the face of it looks like a decent enough deal BUT can you trust the management to honour the agreement and IF the deal were to be rejected is there any prospect at all of negotiating something better.

Once done this deal cannot be undone because the members will quite rightly refuse to do anything that puts those protections in jeopardy. It's a lot like the Grangemouth solution in that Royal Mail will have a nuclear option that they only need to hint at to pull the union back into line.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

I have no idea or really care how much back pay I will receive.
I work in delivery.
What I did want from this deal was an end to the already ridiculous workload we are expected to just except.
An end to the bullying, lies and bullshit we get regularly when we say "no I won't do it"
Just to go to work not thinking "will it be today when I make a mistake" and end up loosing my job because I stand up for myself.
Sadly I believe the new deal will make things even worse.
Each to his own tho mate.
