Spells of heavy rainfall will continue to affect parts of southern England and South Wales during Monday and overnight into Christmas Eve, clearing the southeast of England before dawn. This will fall onto saturated ground and lead to a risk of flooding.
This is an update to the warning issued on Sunday.
The public should be prepared for the likelihood of some significant disruption due to the combined hazards of heavy rainfall and high winds, for which see also the separate wind warnings.
A deep area of low pressure will sweep active frontal systems across England and Wales. The associated heavy rainfall will probably ease for a time in many places before returning later on Monday evening, clearing from the west overnight. This will bring 20-40 mm rainfall quite widely within the Amber Warning Area, and over 60 mm across some of the higher ground. Given the already saturated conditions, this will bring the risk of flooding, problems possibly exacerbated locally by wind-blown debris blocking drains.

Southwesterly gales and locally severe gales will continue across southern and eastern parts of England during Monday night, but are expected to strengthen further across parts of southeast England, in the Amber warning area, during the early hours of Tuesday, with gusts of 65-75 mph inland and 75-85 mph along exposed coasts. The winds will ease from the west by morning.
The public should be prepared for disruption, particularly to travel and for interruptions to power supplies.

A spell of very strong winds will affect Northern Ireland through Tuesday morning. Gusts of 60-70 mph are expected inland with 80 mph gusts possible along the North coast and over high ground. Along with the winds there will be sleet and snow showers these mainly affecting County Derry and County Antrim.
The public should be prepared for disruption, particularly to travel, and interruptions to power supplies.
A very deep depression will bring a spell of storm force winds and wintry showers to Northern Ireland during Tuesday morning. The winds will ease during the afternoon, although squally winds will still occur during showers. The wintry showers will mainly affect County Derry and Antrim where accumulations of 2 to 5 cm are possible above 200 metres, this snow blowing around and drifting in the wind.

A deep depression tracking north, to the west of Scotland, will bring a period of storm force winds with gusts 80 to 90 mph later on Tuesday, to affect western Scotland and then into the Northern Isles.
The public should be prepared for disruption, particularly to travel, as well as interruption to power supplies.
A very deep depression to the west of the UK will bring another spell of stormy conditions to many parts of northwest Scotland, the Western Isles and later the Northern Isles. Severe gales will continue into Christmas Day across the far north and the Northern Isles - covered by a separate Yellow Alert.

The public should be aware of the risk of localised flooding and disruption to transport due to a combination of rain and wind, for which see the separate wind warnings.

This will bring around 20 mm rainfall quite widely within the Yellow Warning Area, and more then 30 mm over some of the higher ground. Given the already saturated conditions, this will bring the risk of localised flooding.

A rapidly deepening area of low pressure will bring very strong winds to Northern Ireland, Scotland, north Wales and northern England during Tuesday. There is the likelihood of widespread gales, with gusts 65-75 mph. Gusts of 80-90 mph are possible, the greatest risk being towards the northwest where there will also be frequent wintry showers.
The public should be aware of the potential for significant disruption to travel due to the very strong winds.
This is an update to the Alert issued on Sunday to extend the area further south. Please monitor for further updates.
An area of low pressure will deepen rapidly as it passes just to the west and northwest of the UK on Tuesday, ending up as an exceptionally deep feature. This will bring severe gales to northern and some central parts of the UK during Tuesday.
7. Yellow warning of Ice

A band of rain and snow will cross Scotland late this evening and at first tonight. Following on quickly behind will be clearing skies and much cooler conditions with icy stretches possible on any untreated roads and pavements.
The public should be aware of the risk of ice and take extra care.
A cold front will cross Scotland during the early hours of Tuesday morning with temperatures dipping sharply behind with the risk of ice forming. There will also be some wintry showers later in the night.
