Very little training IMHO, if you get any.

Your manager will train you as follows.
"This is the frame, it's a piece of piss this one, can't go wrong, just follow your nose. And there's fk all mail in today anyway"

Re: Training on rounds
Cheers for that, at the moment I am in my fourth week and they have put me on a vacant round (6 hour shift)until xmas is over, which has not been advertised yet, I'm on a seven hour day and have been told I am a reserve and could be put here there and everywhere after xmas but I work in an area that is totally new to me and that's why I was interested about the training.johnnyp wrote:There sure is click the link below and welcomepaulf0203 wrote:I'm a new starter and was wondering what the arrangements are for learning new rounds ie is there an agreement on it?![]()

Re: Training on rounds
When i started i picked up a vacant duty which i stayed on for about a year.a bit different in those days as work place coaches were not about and training was a few days out with another postie and then left on your own to get on with it.Walks were not as hard then and after a few months i got on the docket which before long i had done most of the walks in the office within my first year.paulf0203 wrote:Cheers for that, at the moment I am in my fourth week and they have put me on a vacant round (6 hour shift)until xmas is over, which has not been advertised yet, I'm on a seven hour day and have been told I am a reserve and could be put here there and everywhere after xmas but I work in an area that is totally new to me and that's why I was interested about the training.johnnyp wrote:There sure is click the link below and welcomepaulf0203 wrote:I'm a new starter and was wondering what the arrangements are for learning new rounds ie is there an agreement on it?![]()

Being a reserve you to will more then likely do a different walk every week which will be tough but if you stick it out will come in very handy as you will learn the Inward Primary Sorting very quick plus when a vacant duty does come up for signing you will know if it is worth going for.
I think a new entrant should if possible be left on a walk for at least 12 weeks to get the hang of the job then after that as long as the frame is laid out correct and you have a google map then you should be ok to do a different walk every week, the big question is will you be able to finish them within your duty time

Re: Training on rounds
There is no agreement on learning new rounds as far as i know, most Doms will expect a postie with the aid of a map to be able to do any walk once there induction period is over approx 12 weeks, but as you know we are all different some will pick it up quicker and some not so,you can only do youre best at the end of the day and the Dom will just have to accept it as long as you dont take the piss.paulf0203 wrote:Thanks Johnny but is there not an agreement on the matter with the union?johnnyp wrote:When i started i picked up a vacant duty which i stayed on for about a year.a bit different in those days as work place coaches were not about and training was a few days out with another postie and then left on your own to get on with it.Walks were not as hard then and after a few months i got on the docket which before long i had done most of the walks in the office within my first year.paulf0203 wrote:Cheers for that, at the moment I am in my fourth week and they have put me on a vacant round (6 hour shift)until xmas is over, which has not been advertised yet, I'm on a seven hour day and have been told I am a reserve and could be put here there and everywhere after xmas but I work in an area that is totally new to me and that's why I was interested about the training.johnnyp wrote:There sure is click the link below and welcomepaulf0203 wrote:I'm a new starter and was wondering what the arrangements are for learning new rounds ie is there an agreement on it?![]()
