this new agreement that is comming into place, if we accept states that we cannot strike in the future if we accept.

in my eyes this is big trouble ahead I hope you all stick together and tell them to stick it, dont let that carrot they are dangling get us,

because in the near future we will all be fcuked!

I'm Voting No,
Workers have suffered long and hard to earn our right to strike, take that away and you are returning to the days of mill owner like power over its workforce. They will be able to do anything they want. The new agreement mentioned something about arbitration and bullying, well we went down that route (only after a strike mind you) and the bosses have now welched on any improvement that was supposed to come out of it. The bullying has got worse and all the bosses had to promise was to sit through some focus groups of workers. nothing changed and they still expect you to complete unrealistic failed revisions. We still have the failed revision in (which was part of the problem) so we got nowhere with arbitration. Five years of this type of crap will destroy rights that has taken so long to gain, or end in mess as we are forced to return to strikes despite the loss of the benefits of the deal.

Some people will never be happy just accepted you've got to work your hours it's a good deal, we are a private company now not many private firms offering what we are getting. once we get taken over that will be it take the deal

If you take this deal why do they have to wait to be taken over, this deal gives them the right to s**t on you with impunity. They can do what they like, and if you try to protect yourself, there is no deal , they just walk away. All you really have is a pay deal, they can walk away from that to. Just when your think things can't get worse the CWU trumps itself and comes up with a worse agreement, than the laps pile of cr@p they came up with.

Thank god. The penny seems to be finally dropping in regard to this shockingly bad agreement and it's quasi 'NO STRIKE' clause.

I fear he is. There are plenty of 'Andys' throughout RM who, because they are not arsed personally, don't care if they're going to f*ck everyone else over by voting 'Yes'. To me, voting 'No' is a no-brainer, based purely on this poisonous 'No Strike' clause. It goes against everything that makes the union movement such an essential presence for workers, particularly working for an employer like RM. I find the fact that CWU agreed to this slightly sinister to be honest but that's for another day. Enjoy the pre-Christmas £400 and vote 'No' in January.

To be pedantic its not a "No strike Deal" as we can strike locally if we follow the new procedure, and we can strike nationally as long as we recognise the implications of doing so.

However, the deal does make a strike extremely unlikely on a National Scale as in my opinion even if the Top Bods think the cause is good enough to do the merry dance with legal protections, the ordinary members would have to be seriously galvanised and would have to have a lot more confidence in the direction and leadership of the Union than they appear to have at the moment.

Also with so many hoops to jump through for a local official action to take place I am afraid that strike apathy, like the recent national case, will weaken any action and may even kill a lot of them off even if the cause was just.

The problem is, in our office no one realises this. Everyone is just saying how good the deal is because of the backdated pay lump sum and the payrise. I will vote NO, but i think the result will be YES, unfortnately. The CWU should be doing more to educate its members on what the deal is in black and white, because all this RM propaganda is going to everyones head

Where's the RM propaganda? Isn't the CWU conducting it's own briefings on the content of the deal? Some people don't believe the CWU version either and choose their own interpretation of what it means.

If the deals goes thru: later date, lets say their was a pay rise issue.

And we were to strike on a national level then surely that action would not be stood down until we got an acceptable pay deal and RM agreed to put back in place all it has taken... correct?
