Un cancelled stamps

Why at christmas do the Royal mail allow so many un cancelled stamps through the network. I see so many stamps being reused some don't even bother to hide the fact its reused and cut round the stamp and stick it the the envelope.
Surely the Royal mail should be protecting its exposure to fraudulent use of stamps. We do all this hard work to make sure all the post is delivered and then allow people to peel off the stamp and use it again, its crazy

I use a huge felt tipped pen and put a big black line right through the stamp, or if it's been cut out and the re-used and/or glued/stuck back on I write re-used stamp and put it in for surcharge.

As others have said, Royal Mail must be losing an absolutely huge amount of money each year from this practice.

Once over we didn't charge and then it's crept up gradually to £1 plus postage charge. Now the point I'd like to make is that a realistic charge to recover the amount it costs to surcharge?

It's very big business on ebay , selling used stamps. I blame the post offices for plopping them straight into the system , rarely they cancel them in front of you.

Yep, I remember In my previous office job the boss had a whole drawer full of stamps to be re-used!

I thought it was all our jobs to send them to RP when noticed,so why are you delivering them?

The main part of the problem is the late shifts in every single MC around the country, probably there isn't sufficient staffing levels for the stamp and sort. Worst cuplrits seem to be the newer MCs (new as in opened within the last 5 years ish) as sometimes every the only stamps from them that have been cancelled is have been cancelled by PO branches.

I don't think anyone should be writing 're-used stamp' on the letter and then getting an unpaid sticker put on, who are you to say the sender didn't write an incorrect address on, and cover it up with a label.
Why do you think it is not official policy, but only done by the officious.

If the sender wrote an incorrect address on the envelope and covered it up with a label then the stamp wouldn't have been cut out and glued back on.

I might have been inclined to cancel them when we were a public service but I'm going out of my way to help the shareholders.

I always put a line through them with a biro. The problem is no one else in my office bothers. Yesterday i must have done hundreds. But everyone else says "they cant be reused because of the new security tabs" which is rubbish because they dont work. My problem is if im doing hundreds every day in my office how many are not getting cancelled. Must be thousands just in our office. Royalmail need to stop the short sighted approch of just wanting to get it through the network quickly and start to cancel all stamps.

they could have wrote the wrong address or messed up on the envelope then cut out the stamp glue it on a new envelope . this is why i dont stick a stamp on till ready to post the letter
