Please could anyone help with a bit of information. Can anyone tell me what the standard time allowances are for collection stops? ie pillar boxes, meter boxes, sub post offices, main post offices, firms etc. Obviously driving time is on top these but I wondered if there were standard time allowances for each different type of collection stop. I'm coming under more and more pressure to do my collection quicker and I'm trying to resist driving like an idiot. No time allowance has been made as they keep adding extra collection points (5 firms up to now) and matters are coming to a head. Can I ask to see their route planning? perhaps a bit pointless as they haven't got one, they just keep adding extra collection points when they take out duties and spread the work over other duties. It would be easy enough for me to put my route through google maps/ aa auto route to demonstrate a driving time but I don't know the standard time allowances for different types of collection stops, any help would be appreciated.

Your collection route when first introduced would most likely been made for collections from pillar boxes + post offices and customer collections. In relation to customer collections you can make collection 10 minutes before the collection time shown in your route list at the discretion of the customer. Pillar boxes and Post offices must be collected at the designated time at not a minute before as you will be asked for an explanation when there has been a print out of collection route times. Not sure what your collection consists of and how many collection points you have and area to be covered and time given for this complete collection but on average our office has 5 post offices + 15/18 pillar boxes to be completed in 1 hour 45 minutes. There is continual argument that the time shown for the first collection point is insufficient for the leaving time from the mail centre but management state that the collection points with the same collection times are made in bands of four and what you lose at the start you have sufficent time to complete your round at the time shown on your "318". Therfore if as you state you are receiving additional collections then your time is unworkable and needs to be tested and you need to request that you are accompanied by a mangager or your union rep to reassess your route. To pressure you into completing more work in same time will be effecting your ability to drive in a safe manner and would come under Safe Systems of Working ( SSOW). I trust that you are completing your collection as recommended by management ensuring that vehicle is within your sight on vacating all doors are locked and mail placed in rear of van and specials are stowed correctly.

3 for a firm
5 for a TSO.
you may have local variants ie some boxes, TSO's or firms take longer due to volume of mail or accessibility and their service time should be adjusted accordingly.
