got called in the office about a customer complaint today, to be fair he didn't have a pop at me, just to see if i could shed some light on the complaint received from customer services ,
apparently i'd carded an old disabled dear without knocking
when he told me the address i was puzzled because she can walk, albeit an elderly lady and i usually have a bit of banter about football of all things if i see her, and she always tips me at xmas,
i spoke to her husband later and turns out i'd posted her a surcharge card....bang goes that tip!

makes you laugh, it still goes down as a customer complaint unless the DOM challenges it.
We had 30 complaints one month and about 90% were for similar reasons to you.

But for most of their life there's been a knock on the door for payment and handing over the item and old folk can't be expected to realise that that's not how it's been for the past twenty years - short tem memory loss, or something like that.

I stand to be corrected, but collection of surcharge money is not in our job descriptions. We cannot be trusted to collect money.

Do NOT collect ANY money from people for ANY surcharge item.
Explain to them they either have to take the card, with ID, to the collection office in question and pay for the item there and then to receive it or to put the relevant amount charged in stamps on the card and post/take it into the office to get the surcharge item. Also explain to them as it's a surcharge item you do not have to knock/ring the doorbell etc. Also show them a P739 and explain the difference and their demeanour will soon change, and be polite when you do it, despite the fact that in your mind you may well be cussing them for having a go at you for "not knocking".

I refuse to take any surcharge cards and the money in question, because if you lose it then it's your neck on the block not theirs!

Not for years and years, it tells the customer on the card what they need to do. Send stamps, go to collect and pay etc.

her husband also said she complained that it came a day late, i then had to explain that they usually get wrote out the day before after we have left the office,
he was ok about it, he even joked about sending the person who caused the problem in the 1st place a card with no stamps on it!

I once read that rm take £14000000 in surcharge fines , where does it all go? There's no official count of them so it's just spare cash in the office. Our many lazy managers take themselves to pub every friday morning in works time

I had a old guy this week run me down for a surcharge, I was in the van!, opened the door to speak to him, and the poor old git was having a bit of trouble keeping his saliva too himself!, he kiddled over me van upholstery, now that man has two surcharges....

Remember those BT red A4 Cards we had a while ago - hated delivering them you always got a least 2 or 3 a day doing the Oi postie I was in
