It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Royal Mail agreement presented to reps
Dave ward talks about the pay deal saying its the best around and we got to thank the union for this does he forget royal mail offered the pay deal in July before negotiation started with the union and all they archived was 0.4 pay rise this is about 1.50 a week. Then he talks about 300£ being only open to staff willing to cross the picket lines yet again in July royal mail offered 300£ as past of the pay deal. So money wise Wat has the union archived for us a 0.4 pay rise and 200£ lumper 100£ less then Wat royal mail offered and at 1.50 it Will take best past of two year to claw back and there selling it saying its ground breaking!!!!!
Bob Gibson said "we have archived ending annualized hours and stopping increased flexibility and increased monitoring" correct me if im wrong but the agreement talks about being more flexible on a swings and roundabout basis and as far as monitoring the agreement mentions 28 times efficiency and productivitys. In other words individual performances so this must be ground breaking!!! this agreement is a sheep in wolves clothing and if it goes through its left to up the local reps to deal with the crap. SO VOTE NO

Re: Royal Mail agreement presented to reps
After we in deliveries got shafted with the 2010 agreement, are we seriously considering voting for this ?
Can't wait to see how my area rep is going to try to sell it to me ...... or perhaps he won't

Well there you have it from the horses mouth, "the CWU is embedded in the company", well my opinion is let the company pay for it because I for one am not prepared to finance a tier of management control.fishtank wrote:Did he really say that out loud?Dave Ward wrote:In addition the union and our industrial relations structures are embedded in the company...![]()

Re: Royal Mail agreement presented to reps
I was at the briefing today.
Let's get a few straight
1.There was not apart from a couple of members of the SWP mass opposition to the deal. People listened to what each section meant and also heard from Ivan Walker who is an experience brief on employment law.
2. Royal Mail did offer their reject pay deal without first there being negotiations with the CWU any one who things Royal Mails first offer was 8.6 % is mad.
3. The improvement of consolidating the £100 into basic pay backdating it to the 1st April already without any flow through from overtime / SA or London Weighting is already worth £60 and then will increase again in April and each year afterwards. Most members would want it on weekly pay rather than an £100.
3. The original pay offer was linked to pensions , a no strike deal and changes to working practices. There is no changes to working practices with this agreement. ,there is not a no strike deal and the pensions deal is subject to a separate ballot.
4. The IR framework has been in existence since 1992. Under this agreement it is now part of a legal contract and local reps have a legal right to disagree and the status quo to be protected until the IR procedure has been exhausted. Contrary to the view of most views on here there is not hundreds of local disagreements in delivery offices. Royal Mail HR keep a record there are less than 70 out of 1500 offices.
5. There is not a no strike deal. You can take strike action locally once the IR framework has been exhausted and it's has been to the external mediator. This is almost the same now as most offices in strikes go to a stage 4 at national level. In terms of Royal Mails ability to review the legal guarantees in the event of the CWU taking strike action is far from being a no strike deal. It's as almost that you are saying the legal guarantees are so good the CWU will never sanction strike action again. However remember it is annual conference who agree a national ballot of the PEC not an agreement.
6. On deliveries , this is worth clearing up some noise. If anyone thinks the business is going to reverse the changes they made in 2007 and 2010 in terms of working the hours people are paid for , absorption , the use of automation and the use of CDVs and HCTs then you might as well give up now. It is never going to happen and that's not just done to the fact that TNT will start taking work off you once their roll out plans are complete.
7. During the negotiations Royal Mail wanted the CWU to agree annualised hours for all delivery post persons. They wanted a commitment to continuous improvement on efficiency. They also wanted more flexibility so they could resource more to workload and not your actual duties within the office. They also wanted the CWU to agree that the PDAs could be used to record when every OPG finished and can detail what speeds their walking and can be imputed into geo route to establish resourcing and more flexibility. The CWU stopped any of this happening but be in no doubt that is still on Royal mails agenda.
8 The CWU have agreed a review into Delivery problems , there will be survey , there will joint audits and an agreement on resolving the problems in delivery. Contrary to this site not every OPG is having problems and not every office has the same problems. But the review will not have to rely on anonymous posts but actual opinions which can be cross referenced and properly audited.
9. The CWU have also agreed strands for a longer term delivery strategy which have delayed some of Royal Mails aspirations to be discussed. But let's be clear we have to review the current problems to help properly design the future. We have agreed to review the impact on parcels to the workforce , whether Royal Mail are expected to much from the workforce in the way of productivity or efficiency. We have also agreed to have industrial engineers to scope whether staff are getting the right time for d2d , whether traffic is properly being recorded and whole host of other issues.
10. If you listen to some on here there is nothing on bullying and harassment , this is simply not true. The section of Fairness , Dignity and Respect section in the agreement is the follow up to the joint statement on bullying which the union secured some months ago and this will be the first thing to be rolled out in all offices with the help of ACAS. No one should be bullied within the workplace but even when the CWU asked for people to report bullying they got just over. 1000 responses . Far too many and something needed to be done but let's be clear there are 115 thousand delivery employees.
Now I have no problems if people have a different opinion and want to debate the above but let's not have petty name calling or slagging individuals off , this used to be a site which people would have an open and respectful debate not just slagging people off cause it's easy behind a keyboard.

Re: Royal Mail agreement presented to reps
The pay deal was offered in july but there were numerous unacceptable strings attached which of course you have failed to mention, most postman have said that money isnt the main issue yet you moan about the union only getting the deal improvd by 0.4%.tompa wrote:Dave ward talks about the pay deal saying its the best around and we got to thank the union for this does he forget royal mail offered the pay deal in July before negotiation started with the union and all they archived was 0.4 pay rise this is about 1.50 a week. Re: Royal Mail agreement presented to reps
I'm sorry but it's easy to say Royal Mail wanted this and that and the CWU stopped it happening but we only have your word for that and you only have the word of whoever told you so if we're going to have a grown up debate about something we have to steer clear of unverifiable might have beens.dingo wrote:7. The above may be true or it may not or Royal Mail might have just thrown it in there to scare the negotiators but it's neither here nor there because it doesn't appear on any proposed agreement.
