Worst deal and out of touch!!!

Post by tompa »

Been a delivery rep around 10 year and can honestly say this is the worst deal iv ever seen and that the leaders of union are out of touch!!!
Firstly we the members voted on four point 1st privatisation... union missed the boat and to slow and now its to late. 2nd pay deal....royal mail offered in July 2.6 first year 3.0 and 2.8 the following years the union negotiated for couple of months to get an extra 0.4 over three years 0.4 IS THIS GROUND BREAKING plus in July it was 300£ at xmas now union agree to 200£ so 100£ worse off IS THIS GROUND BREAKING. 3rd no cooperation.... union decide to take it out this agreement and try to resolve it next year after we voted on for a no strike deal IS THIS GROUND BREAKING. Last of all competitors mail....yes nothing on competitors mail even though 94% of votes wanted some action taken.IS THIS GROUND BREAKING.
Then there is the five year legaly binding deal.... Royal mail offered in July 3 years concrete won't change our contracts. Union have agreed an extra 2 years for this we give the right to strike up "no union should ever take the right to strike away" and royal mail can at anytime change this agreement for exceptional circumstances or unforeseen issues.IS THIS GROUND BREAKING.
Also in the deal they mention performance and efficiencys so this means individual performances this Will be more pressure on front line staff. SO GROUND BREAKING DEAL MY ASS.

Got to agree. All those weeks of talking for endorsement of changes to RMPP pension in full and 0.4% in from 2014 (we lost £100 off the bonus). However it was explained to me that the national no strike deal from 2016 would be worthless because local stronger units would be called upon to vote individually, which would have enough impact by themselves.

How exactly would that work? As an individual unit of say a moderate sized 200 members who walk out - just how difficult do you think it would be for RM to swamp that office with managers, WCM monkeys and temp staff - certainly long enough for the weaker elements to start wandering back.

UNITY IS STRENGTH so the saying goes but the CWU no longer subscribes to what has been the guiding light of trades unions but then again is the CWU now a union. As time has gone on it appears to be a quasi business partner of Royal Mail - fine IF ROYAL MAIL WAS PAYING THEM but it's union members who are supporting their delusions of importance. Lets be honest would RM pay to support all that expense of the CWU?

firstly i think the £300 was for a no strike before Christmas, and was rejected by the union because it was only for those who in the event of strike action didn't take part.
the rest doesn't seem GROUND BREAKING i'll give you that.
however we are getting £400 before Christmas not £200
Confused... You won't be, after the next episode of. SOAP

Well bog, you're wrong, there was £300 offered to EVERYONE originally for a no strike action, then downgraded to the whiners who didn't want to lose the £300 if they didn't strike - that is now £200 and the other £100 - well that finances the extra 0.4% - so it's the same money. just different wording. As for the £400 - well £200 is from last years negotiations on the Xmas bonus, £200 for a sweetener - though it's not dependant on a yes vote and the other £100 is as I've previously stated - you're financing the much lauded ground breaking 0.4%. The audacity of the union to call it a landmark and ground breaking is nothing short of jaw dropping.

Giving up that £100 lump sum adds £90 into annual pay. Approx £1.80 per week less tax & ni and pension contribution about £1.16p per week in your pay packet. I will now be able to buy an extra long snickers per week and put 36p in the charity box at the cost of being driven harder for more and more efficiencies. Jaw dropping, awe inspiring and it costs me £3 odd per week for the privilege. The rest of the increase will only just about cover inflation but nowhere near the total effects of the cost of living and it would take a p.ss poor negotiator not to be able to extract at least that from a private company that has exploded on to the stock market and increased it,s profits enormously off the back of the workers. So no it is not ground breaking.

Well Lincox, hold on to your boxers because tis the season to be ripped off because you can bet the union subs will be increased by at least 3% after Christmas, no need for them to tighten their belt now they've negotiated your ground breaking pay rise :cuppa

You need to re-read the legally binding exception clause...
e) if there is national-scale industrial action (in the form of a strike or action short of a strike) which has been authorised at national level by the CWU, namely industrial action which either (i) involves employees in the majority of operational workplaces across Royal Mail Group Limited; or (ii) involves employees in an integral part of the operation whereby taking action will have, or is reasonably likely to have, a similarly disruptive effect.
That's your plan out the window then.
This is not just a bar on national industrial action,It's a bar on anything that even looks like it is organised at anything other than local level. What you have to also remember is that if Royal Mail even get a sniff that it was planned, organised or authorised at national level they will run to the courts and despite the back slapping of some people over the legally binding aspect of the deal there is a very good reason most unions steer away from involving lawyers in agreements...the courts are the playground of the employers, judges hate unions and if there is the slightest chance they can rule in favour of an employer...by f**k they will.

In legal terms they have the riches of Man City while we have the budget of Carshalton Athletic,It's an uneven playing field and we're likely to get hammered 15-0 every time.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

For the members This agreement has never been about the money its about a fair days work without managers putting pressure on staff. Its about a trade union protecting its members and not taking the right of strike away. Its about sticking together and getting a deal that members need!!! This deal Will only lead into more lapsing putting more pressure on staff with performance checks where managers can bully and intimidate staff. SO CAN SOME ONE PLEASE TELL ME WAT IS GROUND BREAKING ABOUT THIS DEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's f**k all ground breaking about this deal - it's all RM would agree to and because the union wouldn't call a strike that's what we are stuck with - if only those who are opposed to the deal could also have a road show to point out the flaws and flimsy wording there'd be a chance of a NO vote but as it is the branch offices will advocate a yes and like sheep a large majority will follow that line. I am thankful that I won't be here to see it crash and burn and the CWU with it because people are going to wake up sooner or later to realise they ARE being taken for a ride.

Can somebody clarify something please:

The original pay offer had the £300 included in the % increase?

The current pay offer doesn't have the £200 included in the % increase?

If that's correct (and I am far from certain) then we aren't £100 worse off.

£100 consolidated into pay via it being 3% instead of 2.6%
