Christmas Overtime Mail Centre

Hi everybody,

I was wondering if anyone can help regarding Christmas Pressure Overtime.

I filled in my preference form for Christmas overtime, as I am a weekend worker I wanted to work Monday and Tuesdays on overtime 1400-2200. I was told on the first day of Christmas Pressure that I wouldn't get any at all for the whole 3 weeks. They said I could have reverted to full time late turn Monday to Friday if I had wanted but not just 2 days a week. I am not available to work full time through the week so this was not an option.

The Mail Centre is full of Angard and Christmas Casuals so I cannot understand why I didn't get any at all as I thought overtime came before any casual labour.

Can anyone please offer any advice

the only advice mate is get your rep involved asap cant understand how they turned you down for ot,

I spoke to the rep, he wasn't interested and basically said that I couldn't work just a monday and tuesday. It was all or nothing! Not just picking and choosing odd days..

after speaking to other members of staff and management they all seem to agree that I should have been allowed to do those hours and can't understand why I was refused!

in our mc you do whatever hours you want on ot on wot day u want must be a right prick of a rep personally I would report this to cwu hq he has cost u a helluva lot of money

RM Casual workers aren't "Agency Workers", except if you mean "Angard Workers" which they are completely different to RM Casual workers.

Why don't you volunteer to do overtime at local D.O.s??

There will be plenty available, I guarantee it.

I didn't even know I could work in D.O.'s... I think i may give the rep another call in the morning then.. try get to the bottom of it!

Loads of Angard are in all the time... so whats the difference if they are angard... do they come before overtime? I'm not clued up with it all and the rep doesn't wanna help me by the looks of things so I'm sorry to be a pain!

Phone your area rep and ask him/ her to ask the rep why they have not followed the Xmas agreement. All posties should have received an availability sheet in October and this should have been used to ensure all got what they wanted and then the Rep should have used Xmas/Angard to fill in the gaps at their Xmas meeting with management!
If the rep continues to ignore you phone the branch secretary and ask why the rep has not represented you a paid up member of the CWU properly.

Every mail centre I've worked in has done it this way. Even in MCs where there was practically no overtime on offer throughout the year, it was always an all-you-can-eat buffet at Christmas.

I've called HQ they advised me to speak to CWU Branch Secretary.

I've spoke to him and he is gonna call me back so I'll let you all know how it goes..

Yes, you see in deliveries we don't have other people to do our work and overtime is at the managers behest.

Why do you allow it to happen?
There are national agreements and procedures which are in place to stop nepotism and favouritism so why have these not been used to ensure the members are treated with respect and the national agreements are abided by?

Well the strange thing is a delivery office is run by a manager not the CWU, so the manager decides what overtime is required and guess what - he manages that without a resource meeting, amazing really considering they're supposed to be carried out every week.

In my MC, it's basically first come first serve, regardless of seniority or casuals. Everyone should have a equal right to overtime if they want it, no one should get it just because they have worked there longer or they're a casual. It's 2013...

All these people suggesting they get the rep involved is just silly IMHO.
