Branch Recommendations
How are your Branches going about Branch Recommendations?
Are Branch meetings being organised?
Who will get a say on your branch recommendation, Members, Office Reps or just Branch Officers?
and finally which way will your branch go. Yes or No?

Re: Branch Recommendations
But how will they come to that decision? Will they just follow the party line, or will they test the water within your Branch?dvbuk55 wrote:welshy808 wrote:How are your Branches going about Branch Recommendations?

and finally which way will your branch go. Yes or No?That's a tough one, lets see, a bunch of slackers sat on their arse, will not be affected one iota with B&H and increase in workload, just pick up the pay and follow the union line - I'd guess it's a YES.

Re: Branch Recommendations
Because just as the CWU now follow the path of least resistance so will the branch - I don't know about others but our branch won't make any effort to consult the members.welshy808 wrote:But how will they come to that decision? Re: Branch Recommendations
There will be an opportunity for Branch recommendations as the ballot will not take place till at least the week after the 10th January. The national briefing will give the opportunity for questions and a debate. my understanding is the lawyer for the CWU who wrote the legal parts will be there to explain what is different about a legally binding agreement and what is.standard within any such agreement and what is not.welshy808 wrote:But how will they come to that decision? There will also be local reps briefings so all reps fully understand the agreement and can question and make their views known.
I would have though most Branch's will want to wait until at least after the national briefing before they make their recommendations. Remember the last agreement only 9 Branch's who recomended no had a majority of members who voted with their recommendation.

Re: Branch Recommendations
Why should offices care what their branches think?
We as local offices are about to be cast adrift on the great sea of "look after number 1 because nobody else will " so it's really immaterial what a bunch of guys in a nice warm branch office not affected by performance or resourcing issues think about it.

Re: Branch Recommendations
Well perhaps this decentralising is a blessing in disguise. Now that the members have become excess baggage to the aspirations of the CWU perhaps it's time to cut the umbilical altogether. Lets for example say that the closest 5/6/7 offices decided to band together to have a sort of collective whereby instead of paying to a huge hydra with many heads they set up a local and relevant committee funded by the previous CWU subs collected by direct debit and paid into a central fund. Nobody has ever suggested that all offices/areas are the same and certainly local issues play a part in any negotiations and who better to negotiate change and issues than local reps. It would certainly take some organising but there are several on here more than able to fulfil the role of local chairperson. RM may not negotiate I hear the stalwarts say but given the option of successive wildcats or sitting round the table with someone who does know what he's talking about and actually lives the experience.....................well the shareholders may have something to say.fishtank wrote:Why should offices care what their branches think?

I mean say 400 people at £30 a month generates £12000 income per month - now in a large organisation that probably doesn't pay the coffee bill but in a small organisation..............well there's quite a lot you can do with it. Anyone think it could fly?

Re: Branch Recommendations
I also remember the roadshows, DVD's and mailshots. Which cost the Union, How much?dingo wrote: Remember the last agreement only 9 Branch's who recomended no had a majority of members who voted with their recommendation.
I also remember that individual members never recieved a full copy of the agreement. which could have been added to the DVD as a .pdf or .doc, for no extra cost art all.
I also remember all the times since that members have moaned about an agreement they voted in.
I haven't made my mind up yet, which way to vote, but I would like to see the full agreement including the annexe you wrote about.
Just a thought Dingo, could the Union send out a DVD this time with all the documents included. The Video could show the explanations from the legal team and the Questions and Answers at the National briefing.
Giving both sides of the debate, it would allow all members to make an informed choice, and dispel some of the bad feeling from those that were left uniformed in 2010. After all The vast majority would have access to a computer that can display PDF files or Word documents

BT2010 recommendation from my branch was made by the IR reps. When I look at my branch committee I see mainly reps who get ad hoc release and spend most of the time doing their OPG job.

Re: Branch Recommendations
You're living in an effing dreamworld. In your new union who will negotiate with a large employer or are you suggesting local negotiations. Because as I see it you claim to be from a weak branch that rolls and assumes the position so what will your weaklings gain against my strong take no s**t branch. Secondly as you keep saying you are voting no and are leaving the union, therefore give back any gains achieved by our unionised collective strength, and give any financial gains to charity then go it alone and get your utopia. Oh wait a minute it's that crap but you'll take it anyway. You really are cluelesswelshy808 wrote:I also remember the roadshows, DVD's and mailshots. The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Branch Recommendations
Is that not what the CWU are advocating, local negotiation, mediation etc - why drag a s**t load of hangers on at added expense? It won't be a national solution just local people negotiating local issues.thebiggestman wrote: You're living in an effing dreamworld. There seems to be a lot who haven't got the hang or forgotten the purpose of a union - is it possible for an organisation to get Alzheimer's I wonder.fishtank wrote:You haven't really got the hang of this union thing have you?
