the majority will get the chance to be heard, the union is a democracy so the majority vote will decide if the agreement is accepted or not

Surely if delivery is the biggest section you would vote in union members that do your type of work? Or is it they don't stand for election?

Seriously.....i personally would hate to work in a mail centre and dont envy them at all, the streets are much more fun. i have no problem with this deal lets get on with it, as long as we can stand together in the future when or if the need arises that is the main thing.

I used to enjoy coming on this forum but find it just winds me up with all the negativity, anyway happy christmas everybody and remember....WE LOVE PARCELS!

I would agree with that but we have to play the hand that is dealt.

no offence but folks in the mail centers have got it so easy compared to us in delivery! The fact that an injured postie or a postie with bad arthritis get offered the chance to work in mail centers says it all really! i worked in a mail center once over an xmas & the folks in there had a saying: lean on it! What that meant was find something to lean on and just have a rest! Then there was somebody who told me to get a york & keep pushing it round if a manager looks at you then just stop when hes gone and lean on it & have a chin wag again! It opened my eyes to say the least! My opinion is we should be on different pay rates & should be balloted separate in this deal as mail center workers will not be affected by large parts of the deal like delivery will be. The performance pressure we are under in delivery is like a different world to mail-centers! Its like we work for totally different companies but are then expected to vote on the same deal?

I do not think it is trying to be divisive to voice concerns about a section of the business that bears the more physical and often more emotional brunt of the business...

Walking out in a Mail Centre or as drivers or office workers does not always have a direct effect on relationships with customers - at least not from the postal workers point of view. We in delivery actually have to deal with the customers day-in-day out and walking out for a day or two will simply cripple a community and we have to look the customers in the eyes after that...

The other thing to point out is that it is virtually impossible to vote No to the agreement at this stage. A lot of things have been tied up - and all wrap up in legal jargons and there are clauses and penalties involved.

I have always believed that the right to vote is not always as important as people make it... For example, the agreement is now such that we vote No and then the legal protection goes. It is an Hobson's choice! You just have to read dingo's post on the so-called magnitude of the deal to see what I am talking about.

For delivery staff that might get crocked or harassed and bullied or even forced out - we are simply collateral damage for Job Security and so-called legal protections.

For the record, there is absolutely nothing in the Agreement for a Mail Centre staff to disagree with - they are winners - because at the end of the day; it would have been easier to franchise or cut-up or continue to modern through better machines a lot of the work they do.

For the record the Pay Rise is not all that. It is not even a factor - unless someone is looking at the money coming in before Xmas. In the old deal offered generously by RM, we would still have had a lot in our pockets in the first year of the deal.

* All these talk of legal protection and the ability of the local rep to 'disagree', take things further up and even ending up in court because they have some disputes with Management; how easy will that really work for people in smaller offices?

What is the average size (number of staff) of the a Mail Centre? I guess it is a lot much bigger than mine which is just about 65 and most of the staff will definitely not walk out because even with a delivery office; there is a great divide.
