Hi

I'm being charged with gross misconduct for swearing in reply to national message on a pda. I'm still doing my delivery and I never was suspended for it. My records are clear, never done anything seriously wrong. Are they really going to sack me for it when foul language is commonly used in my office?

depends on what was said, as long as it wasnt something too bad, ie racial, then you should be fine and would be surprised if you even get a serious warning

It is worse than saying it to their face in the heat of battle, you were not under face to face pressure and even if you were relatively quick on the keypad you have had time to time to judge your own actions prior to sending the reply.
Notwithstanding the fact that it's misuse of Royal Mail equipment, and performed whilst 'on duty' it will also be treated in the same way as an email, social networking or text message communication. (and most businesses have rules regarding those).

I just assumed I'm replying to generic message that nobody would read. Have done it before and nothing happened. It was like saying "god damn it" to yourself after spilling coffee etc. So I'm doomed then...

Not sure how they can prove it was you who sent the message.

Maybe someone else logged your PDA on, in your name...

I was honest and admitted it was me. I was convinced that I replied to a sms sending machine. I wasn't told that I shouldn't reply to those messages during pda training ;)

Can't see them sacking you for an internal communication which isn't aimed at a particular staff member, isn't racist, etc.
It's not like you're giving the company a bad name. More likely you're in for a slapped wrist, and put on a warning.
