Are there PHG "Powers" ?!

We still use the term, PHG, Postman Higher Grade, for our Callers office cover people.
Just wondering: If you are "covering " this Role/Post and are Usually a combined Romec cleaner and RM Part Time Deliver person...
Are there any "Powers of Authority" related to this covered Role?
The problem is: The person currently covering, has become arrogant, ignorant, aggressive and authorative and controlling...to a point of this being raised to Managers.

As far as I know, there are NO Additional POWERS/AUTHORITY related, ie, You DON'T suddenly become a Manager, however much you believe it !!!!

Eg, INSISTING a lady bring in ID to collect a Special for a 9mth old baby. The lady had her own ID, but the person concerned was trying to INSIST that the baby's ID be brought in. Then, 10 mins later saying, about a different caller, "Oh its ok, this lady Doen't need I ID, I know her..." So, no consistancy, and making up the "RM Rules" to suit themselves. Not good to be undermined in this situation I can tell you. (They get about 3 months off each year, as their child is 16yrs of age, and are a single parent.)
Additionally, they are saying..."Oi, take yer break NOW, not when YOU want to later on"...etc.Totally in your face, demeaning, trying to belittle people in Public too.
Finally, getting posties to take them to a shop to buy their snacks - they dont drive - or ringing posties on their mobiles, to get THEM to bring back a roll, snack, soft drink. Unbelievable!!!!

There are at least 1/2 dozen posties getting very upset/irate about their attitude, as we ALL believe they are totally overstepping their authority and are EQUAL to posties. Thanks...

So, before I/we can tell this person to bugger off, are we right, that the Role is cooncerned with Organisational/Working aspects only..and not to interfere with posties jobs?

they are equal to posties, however make sure they are not receiving a supervisory allowance in which case it does give them a little bit of authority which this person is clearly over stepping the mark

I think they DO get the Allowance, as I do when I do cover.

BUT...When the REAL PHG is on and they are covering alongside too, they SHOULDN'T get it as I was told by the Manager he won't pay out for two people to get it.

If they are BOTH getting it, then, so should I when this idiot is the Main PHG person....

Yep...I did PHG cover, for a few months, then found out MUCH LATER! No one told me, no one mentioned it til probably the following year. Nice of em...

So, I now record/claim it retrospectively. but its only a few quid a day, but when yer covering 70 -100 days per yr it adds up.

But it DOESN'T - as far as I'm concerned, - entitle you to become The Devil...

I am a phg, but only cover the morning shift and the whole shift on a Saturday including locking up, I am also only part time and receive no allowances, however I do cover the afternoon phg on a regular basis (full time) When I do the cover I get £30 a week allowance and also a£3.60 (or similar to) allowance for working late, I'm not sure for what time but the duty finishes at 8pm..

Yep, seems like the Leadership Allowance is rife, but shhhhh...dont tell everyone, as RM dont seem to want US to know!
Dont know if its different in every office or standardised... which should be the case.
Still...a few quid a week shouldn't make yer colleagues resent you, if you act as an eeejit.

Can see it coming to a "head" over the next few weeks, as we can't be subjected to verbal abuse and belittling in front of other staff, colleagues and Callers.
Before you change...youve gotta want to change, so they say.
I dont think this person does, as the "Power Trip" is too seductive for them to relinquish it.
Maybe a Civil Revolt/Rebellion is in the offing?

if he asked me to drive him to the shop I would say this is inappropriate use of a royal mail vehicle and if he phoned me up and asked me to buy his food I would say sorry I do not carry any money, if he knows you do just say you will have to break off or claim docket. or just plain no if he gets stroppy take it up with the dim but make sure you have a witness with you. or better still tell him to bring some to work with him

This thread is confusing to say the least....
There are no more PHG roles, they were done away with years ago.

I understand that the term is still used, but cannot understand how on earth there would be a bonus payable on a position that doesn't exist?

I used to do holiday cover for three indoor staff that were once classed as PHG's and then i took over the RLE a few years ago in our office from someone who was a PHG and i have never received any bonus.

Is this just confusion with the supervisory bonus and key holder bonus or have i been mislead all these years?
Be nice to know if i am supposed to be getting some sort of bonus for the crap i have to put up with

I was Dom support / PHG for nearly 5 year about 10 years ago. and the same for 11 months a couple fo year ago and i never once got a bonus payment for covering the roll, £30 a week extra you got to be kidding me.

Well, it's paid here. Check it out, Leadership Allowance, but known as PHG "cover" in our place too.
Sorry if theres any confusion in the terms used...I can only repeat what Im told/informed etc.
